As far as your grinds having facets, heres what I have found.
1. you will get better
2. when you grind your bevels use a new belt and try to establish the grind quick (what I mean is dont keep grinding new facets and expect to takethem out later, try and keep it smooth and correct from the begining). If you are making a flat grind try and keep even pressure to the length of the blade as you grind it. If you are hollow grinding try and set the groove, then touching it up should be easier with the hollow already in the steel to feel. if you havent ground you blade to thin you can take out the factes by making smooth passes from riccaso to tip lightening and coming out form the grind at the tip so you dont thin it to much.
3. after HT catch the little flaws in your grind with finer belts (220 and up for me, I use a 220 to get rid of any HT mess and then move to a 400).
4. brace your elbows at your sides so they dont move around on you, this helps keep my arms steady.
Sorry for the list style but I tend to ramble and would like ot make my posts easier to read lol. If you have toruble with grinds try and get someone to show you, it helps more than words can say. Also you can get mild steel and practice grinds, but the feel is a bit different.
