Can anyone recommend a good knifeshow in the months of November and December. I'll be in the United States in that time period for some vacation.
It will be my first knifeshow in the US ;)

where will you be? that will help us out better to tell you where the shows are.

I could actually travel anywhere in the US. I just need some advice on which
show that is worth joining during that time period. There are two that I'm eyeing

The Newyork custom knifeshow in November and Oregon Knife Club Mini Show in December. I just don't know if the OKCA is exclusive to members only

Oklahoma City will have our KGA Show the first weekend in november. Admission is free. We have 3 Mastersmiths and possibly a fourth there .Check out www.theknifegroup.com for last years photos.

The OKCA Mini Show is free to all but just the one day. Its on the small side and a few custom makers but mainly older knives and a lot of trading.

Yes the OKCA is for members only, besides it is only a one-day mini-show.

I got a reply at the New York Custom knifeshow on November. I have been hearing about it for years now. Has any of you guys here joined this show?
What are your comments

I have been to New York once and it is really a great city. I think the traffic of people will be great

Bruce, The Mini Show is open to everyone free of charge.

As for the New York Show I have heard good and bad about it. I know its out of my price range to do. Mete maybe able to tell you more about it.

They are quite expensive actually  The table cost $700 and you have to stay at the hotel which cost US$319 a night :(

I don't know if it's worth it

New York hotels tend to be rather expensive. You might be able to save $40-50 bucks by staying at the Doubletree Metropolitan at 51st and Lexington. If money is really tight, there are a couple of hostel type places on the upper west side in the $125-150 a night range, if you don't mind the communal bathroom thing:D Check Expedia.com and some of the other travel sites. As long as you aren't there between Christmas and New Years, you may be able to find some other deals.

I did the Nov NY show three or four years in a row and it was OK but not great. Knife Shows as a whole are not as good as they used to be, with so many knives and knife stuff on the internet, a lot of collectors/buyers chose to stay home and buy/browse online. If I could only do one show, it would be the Blade Show in June.

Actually I have a friend who is inviting me to stay at his Condo in Mahattan, but
one of the requirement of the organiser is the exhibitors should checkin in the hotel were the show is :grumpy:

That is why knifemakers should give a much better deal in knifeshows. Like giving away some freebies or bigger discounts

Guys like Don don't have to discount.........and that pisses the rest of us off:p :D

You know what a table holder does most the time at shows? Give free advise. By the end of a 3 day show I'm beat and by the time I get home its a good week until I recuperate. New York Show is to rich for my blood.

It cost me 0ver $2000 to do the NY show back in Feb. It's hard enough to do this for a living, without "giving freebies and big discounts"

This will be my first knife show in the US and as early as now I'm already preparing for the fixed blades that I'll be selling. My main knives are balisongs and this are not legal to import in the US.

Any of you guys have reserved already a table? ;)

Ang-Panday, hope you have a great show. I did OK at this show for 3 years in a row (2002-2005). I've always made my expenses plus some at the NY shows and have done real good at the ECCKS(spring show) in the past. Good luck
