Knifeware Knives - Convex Edge Sharpening Instructions

Scott - great to see you post here in the H.I. Forum. Welcome!

To be perfectly honest, when I'm using one of my convex knives....I rub it back and forth across my palm in between cuts. Helps me keep abreast of any nicks, burrs, etc. and it also provides a low level stropping effect. I also use the front of my pant leg. Guys who attended the MWKK should already know this. ;)

The cardboard method is a lot older than you think. Been around as long as....well, as long as cardboard has....:D

Hi Dan, hope your move went well. Saw the thread about convex grinds. Couldn't resist adding my two cents. :D

we must have been cut from the same cloth, Scott.

:D

Yes, the move went well. Still unpacking though....and my shop is mostly in boxes....:(

But most of us don't rub our pants legs with buffing compound, Dan. :D

The Blackjack Safari Kit that came today (Kukri II & Grunt knife piggybacked on one sheath) came with the sharpening instructions that say to use "clean cardboard". No mention of any specific type.

Interesting. I have every sharpening tool known to man, and he says cardboard is all that's needed! Any thoughts? Anyone ever heard of this technique?
Ernest Emerson recommends using the cardboard back of a note pad for stropping his blades. Click the "Knife Sharpening" link at:

He knows a thing or two about knives, me thinks. ;)
