knifeworks 710 M390.

i confirm the rust resistance issue.

i had a big surprise the first time i disassembled my cf/zdp stretch. i had zero rust spot on the blade wich was well cared, but there was some severe piting just under the washers. now i also have some spots on the rounded par of the tang where the lockbar rests.

still one of my favorite edc.

Did you ever oil the pivot area?
Would that have prevented the pitting or is thorough disassembly pretty much the way to go?
How long have you had your stretch?
Your ZDP pitting claim just got me worried. It's not very humid here in San Diego, typically, but the air is a bit salty and I do work on the waterfront.
Think I may have some preventative maintenance to do...

I've had good use from 20cv and m390pm and have developed a respect for them. They seem to have some extra wear resistance that S30V only approaches when pushed up near RC 61.

Edge stability is good for a steel with that much chrome IMO. It's all relative. I enjoy sharpening it too. I don't have a lot of stainless steels that I feel are IMO between the S30V, and S90V wear resistance wise, but this stainless appears to be one. It appears clean and the ease of sharpening for such a wear resistant steel surprised me at first. IMO, it out wears BG42, yet sharpens easier.

I hope BM actually held the steel to the advertised RC 60-62 range. To me, running it at 58.5 RC would be a real waste of talent. We'll see as more get out.

Elmax has impressed me also.

yes i do oil it. usually all my knives are disassembled when i receive them, oiled, loctited etc ... this one i didn't because i'm no that confortable with lockbacks in that respect. the first time i opened it was probably 3 month after buying it (brand new) for routine maintenance ...

i wash my knives frequently so at the end of each day of use i oil them. this one was no exception. and i highly doubt more frequent disasembly would have changed anything at all.

but don't get me wrong, this doesn't really affect performance, the knife is still smooth, thumb flicks easy with no play etc ... just a hair gritty when you open it slowly.

what somewhat upset me at the moment was spyderco's answer when i asked them if i could buy a spare blade. they just said no. i didn't asked a free one as a warranty, i wanted to PAY one. i still wonder why they declined, but now i live with that. easily because despite that the knife is just perfect for EDC. holds a 10°/side edge without problem.
