I'm on the verge of ordering a Benchmade Osborne 940 and I'm considering doing the "engraving" option that they offer on www.knifeworks.com, but first I'd like to ask a few questions to those of you that have done this through them.

How is the quality of their engraving? Does anyone on here have a picture of a knife they ordered from knifeworks that has done engraving for them? Their price of only $7.00 dollars which seems very reasonable, Im just wondering if it's quality work.

Thanks guys,
Zack

What I would do is email or call them, and ask them if they have any pictures of the work they offer. Go straight to the source.

I just had a knife works engraved knife arrive (Valentines day gift for the wife) and it was flawlessly done. Their customer service is outstanding as well.

I emailed them not too long ago so I'm still waiting for a response. I mainly just wanted to hear the customers review of what they got.

ooitzoo- glad to hear it was flawlessly done! Do you know what technique they used to do the engraving? Was it etched into the blade or laser engraved? If you have any pics let me know!:D

They specifically advertise their service as "laser engraving," so I assume that's what it is.

I've had three knives engraved, each with a set of three initials (all capitals). They did a very classy job. The only quibble I have is that I think the kerning (spacing between letters) on one set of initials looks slightly off; a D and L could have been tucked more closely together (French Script font). However, this is purely subjective, and other initials using that same font (same blade, different knife) are perfect. Even with the one in question, it looks more like "character" or a judgment call than an error, but others might feel differently.

Also, in general the font/engraving is larger in proportion to the knife blade(s) than I'd expected. I think it looks really good, but realized once the first one arrived that I hadn't known quite what to expect, and the size took me by surprise at first.

Sorry, no pictures on hand of the first example and the knife's not here with me. Of the second, I can try to get a good picture, but think I may have to read a few pages of photo tutorials first. Heh. (I was playing around with my camera, angles, outdoor light this late afternoon, etc. and it's harder than it looks to get a gooood picture.) Another "sorry."

I'd say go for it, but maybe ask them to attach an image (per email) of what the actual engraving/spacing will look like before submitting your order? Ie, have them "type" back to you what they intend to place on your knife blade, and make sure it looks the way you'd expect it to.

I've found their customer service to be excellent, meaning, prompt responses to my email inquiries, willingness to add to existing orders, etc.

Right on thanks a lot for the info pertinux! Looks like I'll be buying myself an Osborne 940. I haven't ordered a knife from them before but it sounds like they're a great website to do so with. If anyone else has pictures of their knife that's been engraved by knifeworks please post it!

Thanks everyone,
Zack

I ordered engraved Case Knives for all of my groomsmen. I heard good things but knifeworks exceeded my expectations. They got everything out quickly and they looked much better than I was expecting.

I was worried when I picked the fancy font that it would be hard to read.

Let me go grab some pics.

Also, it looks like I wasn't wrong with my idea of asking for a picture of the engraving ahead of time.

If you haven't already, check out this bladeforums.com post here.

That's great that they showed you what the knife would look like before you received it. It seems like they care about their customers. Good stuff pertinux!

Zach, call them 888-225-9775

They are very good to deal with. The engraving will delay shipping a day. If they receive the order before noon, it usually goes out that day, so the engraving would delay it one day.

When I lived in Baton Rouge, I often received the knife the next day.

It was laser engraved. This thread actually reminded to post up a positive review/feedback thread in GBU (before this got moved.)

You can see that thread right under this one in GBU.
