I've really been a New Graham Knives type of dude, but last week I ordered from knifeworks.com because they carry some Maxpedition gear that I like. I ordered a Maxpedition M-1 waist pack, a Spyderco Ladybug, and a Victorinox Spirit.

That same day, I received an email from "Dana" saying that the V-nox was out of stock, and if I would like something else instead. I, being a knife knut with a very long list of various "toys", email back, asking for a Tops Wolfpup. I then received an email saying that the Tops Wolfpup was also out of stock. I was on the verge of canceling the order, but then remembered the Boker Subcom FB that I wanted. I was informed that yes, that would work.

So, my order has been "In-Progress" for 5 days. Then, several hours ago, I get an email which said that my item was shipped. I was filled with, er, joy. A bit ago, I check the order status, and it's back to "In-Progress".

I send an email, and get a reply saying that "One of the knives did not come I had to reorder they sent the wrong one"

I don't know whats allowed in GB&U, but what the hell? Does it say on the site that they have to order each knife? :grumpy:

I'll call them up tomorrow and cancel the order.

I think they're honest merchants; I just would like to see their stock situation on any given knife
when I'm shopping on their site.

Not to imply that your experience isn't true, but I have ordered at least 6 knives from them and had the exact opposite.

Good communication, decent prices, and I had to send one item back, got the replacement in 5 days.

Hope everything works out.

They can be at the mercy of suppliers on a hard-to-get item, but they seem to be well-stocked generally. I've never had a delay myself.

They should have communicated the situation to you. Good communication is everything in business.

I'd be pee'd off too.

I had excellent luck getting the last knife I ordered from Knifeworks. It got here so fast I could hardly believe it.
On the other hand, at least 4 other places I have ordered from in the past have taken what seemed like forever to get my knife and ship it out. I hate when they charge your credit card as soon as you order but you don't receive your order for weeks (or months).

I have had great dealings with knifeworks for many years, and they will continue to get my business. New Graham has also been very good to me.

I've bought from Knifeworks in the past, with no negative experiences. From your post, it's clear they must be having some problems this holiday season. Perhaps a technical problem with their inventory software?

I've bought many knives from Knifeworks in the past and have received excellent service each time. Zero problems.

Hi all. I don't normally post on any knife forums much but I wanted to reply on this thread because of my experiance with Knifeworks and of working in this industry for the last 8 years.

I have known Roger and been one of his suppliers he buys from for the last 6 years or so. And actually I just spent 5 days visiting him and helping out in his store a few weeks ago. He has so much inventory on the shelfs I was blown away. Unlike a LOT of the websites online, he actually HAS a storefront and orders product to stock up on in case on of his distributors is out of it. Dana and the rest of his staff are some of the friendliest, customer service orientated people I have met.

I completely understand your frustrations with having something go wrong with an order. Especially since it is the holiday season. But you have to also understand that as long as people are manually packing orders, there are going to be the occasional mistakes. There has been times that I've shipped Knifeworks an incorrect item which in turn affects you guys, the consumers. And believe me, I feel awful and cringe every time. I know it annoys me when I shop online and similar things happen. But after working on the other end of things and seeing how many orders fly through in a day and the effort that is put into making sure each is correct, I have come to accept that while in an ideal world there is no mistakes ultimately there will be.

Also, like I mentioned, a lot of the sites online do drop shipping through suppliers only and don't keep inventory on hand at all. Because Knifeworks also has a store, they are able to keep their fill rates much higher than competing websites.

The point I am trying to make here is that I know Roger will do anything in his power to quickly correct your problem and get you the right item. Business aside, he is one of the most stand up people I know.

I am truly sorry that this happened to you, but I assure you that customer service is his #1 priority and if you give him a chance to make things right, he will.

Sorry you have had a bad experience, but my experience with knifeworks has been good since nearly 6 years I have been buying from him. And this is no mean feat as I am thousands of miles and 13 hrs difference from him!! I have spent some time at his place and can say that he has more than a millions dollars worth of inventory. As for the case of SAKS, they have so many models with sometimes confusing item numbers that its hard to keep track. Also the TOPS knife is 1 very hot selling item and gets sold as soon as they get delivered from the manufacturer.

In the case of the Boker, what must have happened is that your card was charged as soon as they have your item in the system, either in hand or ordered from a distributor. It takes at least 1+3 days for the item to be delivered from the distributor not counting weekends. And when the item came, it was discovered that the wrong one was sent. As soon as Dana found out she would change the status of the the order from shipping to in progress. At the same time she would try to call if a phone number is supplied and email if not.

I was there when the new Benchmade 745 Dejavoo came in, 20 pcs came and 5 was sent out the same day. The rest was out the next day!!! And buying this period of time is really not advisable as most of the dealers are swamped with Christmas gift shoppers. Roger is a standup person and Dana is friendly and prompt.
