Nice review. The feel of the scales is the thing which always stopped me from going for a bugout or anything in the griptilian family. I never understood what people saw in the 940. The size of the scales always made the knife feel clumsily small and I felt like I was always going to drop it as a result.
So there is a problem. I'd really like to see scales in some old world nice material which will improve the look and feel of the knife. So, I think I am going to pickup a Bugout or a grip used with as close to a pristine blade and pocketclip as I can find and use some of the exotic hardwoods I have leftover from guitar building to make a new set of scales. The beautiful thing about woods like Lignum Vitae or Black Iron Wood or African Black Wood is that they're naturally oily, extremely hard, very stable, and quite tough. All you need to do weather-proof one of these woods is to polish it. Once I have the locations of the standoffs, axis cuts and pivot, its just a matter of carving and finishing. I'll start a new thread with pics when I finish the project.
