Knifeworks Exclusive Millie - ETA

so, do we think this was the cause of the delay?

This should be saweeeet. I'm starting to get excited again. Still not sure if a regular 'ol g10 military would be better for me, but I guess there's one way to find out :D

Honestly, I do prefer the G10 standard over the all TI but I think this knife is going to thread the needle and be the one. I sure hope so. Knifeworks and Spyderco are on the right track IMHO. My only gripe is that I can't be selfish and get two! :D But we have to spread the love and I learned to share early on ;)

Phew! I went a bit overboard this summer with knives and lights and was fretting the upcoming bill for this one. I was even contemplating selling it as soon as it came in, trying to convince myself that I really didn't want it. This gives a lot of us another welcome month to pinch pennies... or loonies and toonies up here;).

i know just how u feel.i don't like the blade shape on my zt0350 and have been fighting back ordering a stretch in zdp-189. can't wait for this to get here.

So the removable lock face will be a first on this Millie? You know what would be another great first for the Millie on this model? Tip up carry option! :D

It would be nice not to have this special knife drilled and tapped afterwards.

Uhhh, yeah, great idea...let's redesign it before it ships so we can get it in, say, 2012??? ;) ;) ;) Jus' pokin' ya... :D

Yes!

I have this horrible feeling that I am going to get this, not be able to adjust to the tip-down, and have to get rid of it....

I've probably sounded off on this subject too many times to count, and you'd think I'd eventually understand or at least just accept it. But I don't and can't. Okay, set me straight on this if I'm off. The strict and dire need for tip-up carry is because of those (purported) few extra milliseconds involved in adjusting your grip in potential life-and-death moments in an attack-defence scenario? And how many of us actually have used or will use one of our knives to defend a life? Let's even say the lost time or "inconvenience" can be applied to other serious situations, like cutting free of rope that is strangling, or binding and resulting in drowning. 3/10th of a second!?! REally? It matters? Or let's say that it's even just a matter of personal preferance for everyday use... I can honestly say I have no idea which of my knives are tip-up and tip-down... I've never bothered to check nor have noticed... drawing a knife is a one second affair and I don't need it to be an ultra-comfy experience on par with a warm wet one, air conditioning in July, or four-ply moistrized toilet paper... I can stand it, amazingly.

Listen, I'm not actually perturbed by this. I just can't imagine foregoing an amazing knife b/c of something so seemingly (realistically, in my opnion) inconsequential.

Please help me understand, rather than just flame me about this.

[Trip, I'm quoting you but this isn't really directed at you.]

No, it is a matter of preference. I doubt anyone posting here is at a loss for cutlery, so every additional purchase is for new/different features that they want, while already outfitted to do what they need. The Bradley is already a tip-up alternative.

No, in a life and death situation, I'll grab for the Glock 27, thanks.

If I were to carry a knife for defense, I suppose it would be waved. Or fixed. Or whatever. I dont really think of knives that way. Never really timed myself deploying blades either.:D

Yep, exactly. I just like tip up. I have huge hands, and grabbing a tip down knife usually doesnt require me to reposition it to open it. Its just what I am used to.

If I dont like the Military, or cant get used to the tip-down aspect of it, I'm pretty confident I'll be able to sell it. ;):D

I wish the Military would have a tip up option so that it could be waved.

Without a wave I find tip down to be much less fumbly.

I'd like a tip up option as well. I've tried carrying the Military tip down and I find the jimping on the spine scratches my hand up a bit when reaching into my pocket to get anything. Then again, I have rather small pockets.

Mark me down as one who doesn't care if it's up or down. Thank God. One less issue for me to stress over on a new knife.

personally I love tip down. never had a tip down folder open in my pocket, but I've had tip ups cut me, or cut my pocket when pulling them out. But it really is all preference. My first spyderco was a para, and I just love the little "tab" that sticks out of the pocket on it and the millie, makes it easy to get it out.

The real reason I want this knife is the blade steel. I want that CPM M4 in a Military pattern, I don't care about frame lock or liner lock, TI or g10.

Alright, I didn't mean to make this a tip up vs. tip down thread. I'm just saying that with a full Ti scale it would very simple to offer a tip up option.

No, I'm not saying that I can draw the knife and defend myself faster with tip up. I don't know where that came from or why that was even brought up. I just happen to prefer tip up carry and yes, I have passed on or sold off knives because of the lack of a tip option. Now, I just figure that I'll drill and tap whatever I need to make it tip up, but when it can be done easily enough at the factory why should I have to?

The clip used on the Military is curved. Switching it to tip up isn't that simple, at least for a production batch, even a small batch like this. It would call for a change to a different style clip, repositioning of the clip on the handle for the tip-down position and possibly a change of hardware as well. Besides, call me selfish, but I'd rather you have to drill a few holes in yours than for me to have extra holes in mine. :o

Or, as a compromise, they could elect to use the straight clip used on the LH Military and leave it up to those who want TU carry to drill and tap for it. :)
