Looking for advice between an automatic coffee machine vs a dedicated espresso maker. Any aficionados out there have opinions? I had an entry level De'Longhi espresso maker that died.

I've been looking at the Gaggia classic/pro, Quick mill pippa or the ECM Casa V.

I haven't really delved into the automatic side yet. I do kind of like the idea of simplicity. The espresso shot has a lot of techniques and methods of producing that I previously wasn't aware of. Rabbit hole of content to consider.

Gaggia classic/pro
I'm familliar with the model but did not use it. About the brand, I'm on second, second generation Gaggia Velasca Auto Espresso maker,
and it's decent brew, but IMO can be little bit better. We prefer espresso, it works fine for my wife, I'm happy too.
As an opinion about the model/brand - I think they are good, mid level, if you pick the good model of the line you're looking for.
They are reliable and I did not have any issues trough out the years. My first one died on her 6th year, used few times per day.
I could replace the part that blew off bit we opted for a new model, parts are available and not hard to replace if you're that kind of guy. Hope this will help.

Thx for the reply. I'm a Plumber by trade, so I like the aspect of buying a serviceable machine instead of the lower end throw away type. The dedicated espresso makers from Gaggia are reported to last 10-20 years plus, so it seems to make sense in the long run instead of buying 5-10 lower quality units in that time.

IMO, whichever model and type you pick from this company, I believe, you'll be able to tweak and service easily for a long time.
From my experience, the most important thing is to prevent hard water build up in the pressure tank, they have filters and so on,
if you use some RO system to feed the water to it, you'll be fine for a long time. Good Luck !
