A wee bit of bourbon from a trusted friend/ “Moonshiner”. Used barrel scrapings as a stave of sorts. Tastes a bit young but goes down smooth with no burn.
This Silkie is a blended Irish Whiskey with a little peat. Very nice aroma, earthy and malty with a little butterscotch, apple, and salt. My sense of smell never fully recovered from three rounds of COVID but there seems to be a floral honey note just at the edge of my perception. Unfortunately, it falls short in the mouth. There is some good here and it definitely gets better on the second glass but the experience is let down by a little bitterness, cloying wet ash, and chalk.
The Tyrconnell is nice. Not mind-blowing and no age statement but it's good, mild for its 86 proof, and brings delightful notes of honey, hay, and uncut apples. It's easy to pair and easy to recommend if the price is right.
