Knives and physical damage..$$

If you can't afford to get stitches and really need them, fishing line works pretty well. I know a lot of friends with no medical insurance that know how to suture their wounds with that stuff. It hurts like hell and has its own risk of infection if everything isn't sterilized, but if you have a cut that actually needs stitches and no money to get them they're a life saver.

I've also seen people hold their cuts together with super glue and duct tape.

Also, I once got cut just like this on the inside of one of my fingers. It was hanging a little over the edge of the sheath hole when I was pulling it out and it cut it right across the first crease in the finger. I've got medical though so I just went to the hospital and got stitches. It's hard not to get stitches on your fingers in these areas since the wound will open with just about any normal use unless you completely immobilize it.

Safety and knives are priority.. yet we let ourselves slip just for the moment and OUCH !!!!!

As said: if you play with knives you're bound to get CUT !!

How much has your knives cost you??? physically, spiritually, monetarily, and even include property damages...

Disclaimer: I'm not afraid of those on the high horse who want to bash me I can take it and really need the punishment right about now..

yeah. If you play with knives you're bound to get cut.

In 50 years of knife carrying, I've never needed stitches. Never damaged anything with them. But then, I use my knives, I don't play with them.

Thank God I live in a country where anyone can get patched up for free. My girlfriend nearly died this year from a severe stomach bug, spent three days in emergency and walked out without paying a thing.

Seriously, if you have a bad cut, get it taken care of.

I've had bad cuts before, but never with my knives. Knives are sharp (or should be) and you have to pay attention when using them.

A few minor cuts I've stitched myself, but most require a doc. For sterilizing and doing it right. If you do it wrong and get an infection, a doc will be needed for debriding or possible grafts or amputation.

I'm guessing you don't have insurance huh? Sucks to get cut, but it sounds like you'll be fine. Just keep it clean and the worst your likely to end up with is a cool scar.

I know I certainly can't preach about knife safety, I've cut myself tons of times. Almost always because I was "playing" with the knife, rather than performing a routine task. I've stuck a knife through my foot, had a throwing knife come back at me and stick me in the wrist, and had too many cuts to keep track of.

Never got stitches for any of them, I just butterfly taped the wounds closed and kept the bandages clean and tight.

....That is until last year when I dropped a Bowie knife that landed on the back of my ankle and completely severed my achilles tendon! Yeah, that one required a bit more than just stitches. All told after surgery and everything else, my medical bills were around $20,000!

Good thing I have med insurance, but it still cost me a grand or two out of my own pocket. ....My wife teases me now by saying how that is the most expesive knife I'll ever own, lol!

Speedy recovery to you buddy!

Last week I drew a Benchmade Nimravus from the OEM BM kydex sheath. My left hand was choked a little too high on the sheath and the edge ran over the inside of my middle finger. .

Get well, getting cut sucks.

I would make sure I can't bend the thumb very much. Just get a piece of cardboard or something stiff, put it against the back of your thumb, and wrap whatever you're using around your thumb and cardboard/material.

I try not to think of my knife-related injuries as a toll so much as I try to think of the wisdom I've gained from the experience. :p Just think, if I didn't end up injuring myself with my knives after doing stupid things, I never would have stumbled upon nuggets of knowledge such as "Exacto knives are really sharp"; "Flipping around a Gerber Mk.II like that guy in Aliens, while cool as hell, will end with you sinking a dagger into your kneecap"; or "Sitting down for a five-finger-fillet competition with a Kabar after downing a bottle of Jim Beam will end in tears every time". :D

Thank god for bandaids, duct tape, and universal healthcare.

machete cuts take a while to heal. apparently they leave a more jagged cut..crazy glue works as well as thin fish line. just do not get infected..at that point you are screwed.

yeah, you should probably go get stitches.

I'd echo that, too. If they tell you to see a specialist, too, definitely do it. My brother is shy a finger and a half because he didn't heed that advice, requiring a later amputation due to severed nerves...

I would recommend a pair of thick leather gloves next time. Truly something every working man needs:thumbup:.

Im not a doctor, but id like to play one on TV and i say you'll be just fine.:D

Sliced open the inside bend of my right thumb last night. So,you do have my thumb-felt sympathy.

I about sliced off the very tip of my middle finger today with my Skyline while cutting a piece off of a nylon pouch. That's right after I punched a hole in the second joint of the same finger by pounding it against the sharp edge of my vise after the hand saw slipped while cutting a piece of wood.:grumpy::o

So that finger is very sore and everyone keeps asking me why I'm flipping them off when I wave at them. :p

Some people should not have knives... just saying...
