Knives and Rifles

I don’t reload, but if I really wanted to I’ve often thought of slowing down a .300 Win Mag with a 180g bullet to 2500 FPS or so. But as rare as it is to fire one in the field, it’s just hasn’t been worth it to me. Factory Nosler Partitions will do anything I’ve been interested in.
..... I am a bit the opposite, these days I mostly hunt hogs and deer with a .308 when I choose the .300 now it is because I am looking for those extra legs it has. Getting ready to head off to NZ a couple of years ago i stoked up some handloads with 180gn Nosler Accubonds and Ballistic Tips (as they shoot virtually identically and the BTs are about 1/2 the price here), off the bench they were "sporty" but shot into consistent groups of better than 1MOA.

Yeah, I hear you. I’ve had my eye on a Steyr Scout in .308 for close work ever since I used a borrowed one on an elk hunt years ago. It’s a nice bush gun.

Wayne,

I do have a passion for knives, I can't say it runs as deep as my passion for firearms though. I did browse this forum a few months ago getting some ideas on a new hunting knife and ended up having a drop point made by James Sponaugle from TN, we used green canvas micarta scales with red liners. The knife is still new, hopefully it will get used this fall on a few whitetails. None the less, to contribute to the post here is a picture of the knife with a classic 270 Winchester.

Here's my big game rig,;),a Weihrauch HW 30 pellet rifle, and a Wusthof Classic Kitchen knife , both nice German products. Favorite summer pass time is dobbing some honey on a 6"x8" piece of cardboard and zapping flies from 50 feet away. The Wusthof makes for a great skinning knife.

Nice rifle.I didn't think I'd like the Henry because of the front tube loading but after I had trouble with a Remlin in 44 mag.,I bought the Henry steel in 44 mag. I am launching my own lead cast bullets out of it in the taste of a 275 grain Wide Flat Nose with a gas check at almost 1700 fps. and it gives me very good accuracy.I call it my mini 45-70.I haven't got a deer with it yet but I bet it'll make a good one for that.
