knives and women who carry them

what's wrong with a woman slipping a folding knife into her pocket?

Don't ladies' clothing come with pockets.....at least sometimes?

My wife won't carry a pocket knife at all...but sees no problem with toting a leatherman in her bag.

Ladies' clothing comes with pockets, but my understanding is that they are not meant to be used. (wouldn't want an unslightly bulge, however small, to change the curves).

I find it terribly unfair that men can carry around a knife or two and no one blinks twice, but if a woman carries one......Shes a freak and shes dangerous.
That is not always the case; men get harassed too.

An idiot that I work with tried to get me fired last week because I carry a Delica to work. (I open up a LOT of boxes, bags, etc everyday.) She accused me of being dangerous and threatning. Luckily, my boss is into guns and knives and quickly realized that she is nothing but an ignorant clod. While I use my knife to open things like a civilized person, she tears and claws like a savage. Who's really the dangerous one?

I find it disturbing that I never see a girl carrying a knife. You know that you've found a keeper if you see an attractive, intelligent girl that also carries a knife.

Your situation is far from uncommon unfortunatley. It seems like most women are a little unbalenced or something. I think the womens movement has made women less strong, not stronger, and I hate to say it but stupider as well. Liberals like to say how bad it was in days gone by but my mom and my aunt could at least tell when someone was blowing smoke up their ass. They took a little responsibility for what might happen to them. Mom always had a .22, esp when we went fishing, she said it was for "snakes". Or course I can say this because I'm a women.

... I am a "freak" at work too,...

I work for a local City. Some of my department had a "lunch with the mayor" the other day. The lunch was delivered in plastic bags with the handles tied. The delivery person tried to untie the bags then tried to tear the bags with no luck. She then asked for a knife or pair of scissors. The other people from my office called for me to hand over a knife. I took out a Spyderco G-10 Native and was asked, "Who you gonna kill with that BIG knife!" with this
 look on their faces. Some people just can't see a tool for what it is.

hi all this is my first post on this forum, i found this thread very intersting because of how true it is.

For me i got my first real knife at REI, when i was 14, i had to tell my mom it was for rock climbing, which it was but i also just wanted a knife, I bought a small 3 inch folding. Then i started to carrying it around everwere i went, and i mean everywear, my parents did not like it and would say stuff like, Why do you have it with all the time, are u scard," i would just say no i like knifes and they are useful, I remember the first time my mom actualy warmed up to the idea of me haveing a knife, it was at my Grandpapas place and he got his first walker, and we needed to put cuts into two tennis balls to go on the feet of the walker, So they grabed the sissers he had lying around but they could not do it. So my mom turns to me and says Daniel use your knife, i was done in 5 sec. After that my parents left me alone about it. I think it they finally relized that knifes do come in handy.

Ps the only thing my parents did not like about me caring after there minds changed was that i might bring it to school, wich as we know in cal. if you bring any waepon to school, the rath of the gov will smight you down. of course i did bring it to school BY ACCiDENT a couple of times, i would just hide it at the bottom of my pack, and be scarded sh**less all day,

PSS with my small kife if i was in a fight i would most likly run away before i pulled it out

Your replies have all been wonderful. What support I have found w/ a group of people I've never had the honor to meet. Thank you. About the pictures....sorry :) Why that is what your mind is for...conjouring up images. Aside from a knife your mind is a wonderful tool as well! :)

My best friend called me up today and told me great "NON-SD" knife story, that reminds me of why it never hurts to carry around a useful tool. If your a humane person, you'll understand why this story is a good one. If your not, well then you might not find this up your alley.

I figure I'll share it anyway......My friend and I when asked why we carry knives like to remind people that they (knives) are one of the most useful tools you can have around. We will list off 10 or so reasons for carring a knife. Well today I had a phone call that went something like this:

"reason number 712 for carring a knife" :D

A deer had been hit by a car in city limits in a neighborhood and was injured enough that it would die, but not for some time. Rather than shoot the deer and scare the heck out of everyone around for firing a gun w/in city limits. A wonderful knife (the NATIVE) was used to cut the deers throat so it could bleed out and then the deer was removed w/ no trama to on lookers, no guns being fired. No one had a clue that the deers throat was cut so that Fish and Game could remove the deer.

People who don't understand the need for having a tool like a knife, are the same people who would be tramatized by the fact that they had to watch an animal die slowly in front of their children. They are the same people who would then scorn the person who took the time and effort to save the animal a long and painful death by putting it out of its misery. To all of them....I am ashamed of your ignorance.

9mmbladechick,
amen!

i know that i personally try to keep the women i date at least modestly prepared with a halfway decent cutting implement. i run into situations where i use my EDC, well, every day, approximately, and i can't see a good reason why anyone, especially a woman, should be without a decent cutting tool for utilitarian or defense purposes. i also tend to go as far as to teach a little about self-defense-pressure points, easily hit, distracting, and oft-unguarded but nonlethal places to hit with a blade should they be the sort of girl who finds herself in situations where a little self-defense capacity would be helpful, as well as basic hand-to-hand defense techniques.

also, a woman who can responsibly carry a good blade gets bonus hotness points in my eyes

Hi 9mmBC

I live in SEAsia where generally the populace is not allowed to own firearms. I used to carry when I worked as an LEO, and before that when I was in the army. Now I work in the Stock Exchange, where I generally carry AFCKs and an assortment of small spydies.

My wife used to work as a lawyer and she usually carries a CF dragonfly and sometimes a delica.

My sister here also carries.

One point of your posts that struck me was that people could see your steel in your workplace. I never take out my longer steel to use in my workplace, if I need to cut something out comes the jester, or something ridiculously small. Don't show your stuff and I think there won't be an adverse reaction.

I support the right of all people to have the means to defend themselves and others and respect those people who make the hard effort to do this.

Carry on carrying, good steel for good people and stay safe for election day

Spyderco is good because it makes such small steel that can do big jobs.

It's true that attitudes are different in different places. I work for a public agency too, and almost everyone here carries a knife of some sort. To be on the safe side I require all of my publicly visible employees to keep their knives, except multi-tools, in their pocket. But it's common to see knives laying around on desks in the office all the time. In fact, my boss carries a SAK he claims has resided in his pocket every day since '76. I've seen the head attorney for our agency pull a Benchmade from the pocket of his suit coat on numerous occasions. But I also live in an area where people are pretty self-reliant and the first day of elk season is a holiday.

People don't understand the need to put an animal out of it's misery. Awhile back a chick I know was talking about how she accidently hit a raccoon. She stopped to check on it and it was in the road with some entrails hanging out. She "helped" it out of the road and back into the woods!!! She thought she was doing the right thing but I kept thinking of how long it took that poor thiing to die. A quick humane death is a concept out of the normal persons grasp these days it seems.
