Among many of my knife related dreams is the one of geting a picture of one of my knives in Knives Annual. I have decided that it is now time for me to start a knife that i would want to see shown there. I must admit i feel very intimadated about it as i am very hard on myself about quality. To me it seams my work will never be of the calaber to deserve being shown, but thats just me. So i'm looking for tips on how to get in. Thanks

I think your knives are good enough but its all about the photos. Just do the best knife you can and get good pictures of it. You may have the knowledge to take them and submit them yourself. They also like some info with the photos. Keep in mind they look for interesting stories and "How To" articles also.
I send mine out to professionals like Jim Cooper or Mitch Lum. They take the shots and submit them to the magazines and the annual. It doesnt pay me to spend $100-$150 for the photo plus shipping and insurance both ways on a knife that sells for a couple hundred bucks so only my best work (higher end) goes out to them.

Jarod- First off, quit worrying so damn much! :)

Secondly... it's a real neat honor... but the knives in there cover a pretty broad spectrum. If you look at issues over the years, there are quite a few knives that suck in there... but they had something that made them stand-out. You also, of course, see some of the best stuff being made in the world.

It's not about making ONE knife that you think will make it. It's about making lots of knives and getting them professionally photographed. There ARE a handful of folks who take their own pics that get in there... but it's rare. Look at the pics... "SharpbyCoop.com" "Mitch Lum" "Point Seven" "Chuck Ward" "BladeGallery.com" that's the names you see time and time again on the pics... PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS IS THE KEY!!!! :)

I've had about 10 or 12 knives in there over the last 7 or 8 years... and it's all because of professional pictures.

So here's your formula: less worry + pro shots of your best KNIVES = getting into the book. :D
