So...I'm getting married in August. My groomsmen will be getting knives as gifts....of course....my finance didn't even ask what I was going to give as she already knew what the answer would be. The question is...what knife? I'm leaning towards Victorinox Alox Cadets.

What are your thoughts. I'd like to keep the price below $50.

Such a gift should, above all, be of high quality and timeless design as it is intended as a perpetual token of a marriage intended to last a lifetime.

Fallkniven U2
Kershaw Stainless leek
Spydie Cricket

All good suggestions. I'm still leaning towards the Alox Cadets. They are more friendly for non-knife people and have a nice blank rectangle on one side which is perfect for engraving initials.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

I think the cadet is a good choice if your groomsmen aren't knife folks. And the engraveable surface is a good touch.

IIRC, I gave my groomsmen Vic Classics. (Ach, it was 24 years ago. Who remembers. I do remember that our budget for the whole wedding and reception was about $700.)

I think the alox Vics are a great idea. Just be careful whom you have engrave them...

I had the same idea for similar gifts. I bought them and delivered them to a award shop for engraving. Long story short, they were fools whose engraver "danced" all along the surface of the alox. The blades were ruined.

I had to go the BBB route to make it right. I despise those folks now. :)

Might be on the low end, but I always thought the Byrd Firebyrds would make great groomsmen gifts.

I think you're idea of knives as gifts to your groomsmen is an excellent idea.

I rec'd one from one of my best friends when he got married back in the late '70s.

I still have the knife & I treasure it. It's a nice gentleman's folder.

Spyderco Delicas don't cost too much, and come in a variety of configurations.
I know I'D like one.:)

Boker's Gentleman Lockback 1004 with rosewood handles or 1003 all stainless are nice.

Heh, as soon as I saw the subject on your thread, the first that came to mind was something from the Victorinox Alox knives. You can get a good price on them in multiple colors right now at Amazon and other places. Personally, I really dig the gunmetal colored ones, although it's hard to beat the classic silver, too.

as a present, I'd go for something shiny and smooth bladed. This is simply more elegant and publicly acceptable than say, a partially serrated tanto blade in gunmetal with a composite handle and nonreflective coating. One that says "display case" more than "i wish i was rambo"

ANY would be nice and appreciated.

But a Fallkniven U-2 would be a KEEPSAKE !!!

I don't think it takes a knife knut to see the outstanding quality of that one.

And it would serve as a LIFETIME reminder of what a REALLY good knife is.

Neophyte or dedicated knut.

I don't think anyone has mentioned them yet, but what about some smaller Case slipjoints. Mini Trappers or peanuts with some good lookin' bone handle. They're a classic, they're timeless IMO, and even guys not into knives would recognize them as something similar to what their grandfathers always had in their pocket. Congrats on the engagement.

Cheers,
Jon

This is actually quite a good suggestion. I've thought hard about some Case Peanuts as gifts. I'm still on the fence at this point. The Alox Cadets being #1 and a small Case being a close second.
