Knives as gifts to groomsmen

The FRN handle doesn't do it for me as a gift.
I agree. It makes a fine using tool, but black plastic / militaristic / Rambo / armyboy-wannabe knives are unsuitable as formal gifts. Like a teachers' strike, No Class.

I'm really liking the Case Peanuts with the additional scissors.
I think that's a fine idea. I've been happy with my recent purchases from Case, and those scissor pen knives looked really nice in the Shepard Hills display cases last week.

I received a Kershaw Leek as a groomsman gift. Of course the groom was a knife knut.

When deciding on a knife for a groomsman, I'd get each individual a knife tailored specifically to that person. A groomsman who works in an office may appreciate a gentleman's knife more than a skinner. A groomsman who works as a LEO may appreciate a Spyderco Military more than a gentleman's knife. A groomsman who moonlights as a mall ninja may appreciate a tacticool knife more than something useful, etc.

First....thank for the suggestions. Second...there will be no mall ninjas standing with me when I get married. :D

Having the time to individually pick a knife for all the groomsmen...I wish I had it. All the groomsmen will get the same knife...the best man will probably get something a little better.

I suggested that earlier, and think it's a good idea whether or not it's standard practice. The Best Man has extra responsibilities, and probably has invested more time and money into the process. Maybe the same knife model as the groomsmen, but with a premium handle material? That way the gifts are still like a matched set.

Best Luck!

I was on an extremely tight budget and got a good deal on that exact same knife. I gave Alox Cadets (silver) to all of the guys in my wedding party. Most still use them and the one that I got for me is on the desk right next to me.
While my friends weren't exactly knife nuts and while it isn't the most expensive around the guys that I had in my wedding party appreciated a good swiss army knife.

Look at the Buck 525 Gent. I gave them to my groomsmen and they all seemed very pleased. The Gent has lots of room for engraving -- quite a bit more than a Vic. Cadet.

I'm not sure if they're available any more, but Buck also made a polished version of the Gent called the Executive.

This is a good option as well. I like the idea of the Executive.....some of these guys aren't knife nuts and having something shiny to hold their attention might not be a bad idea. :D

I was in your shoes last year, and went the same direction as far as groomsmen gifts. I'm a big fan of Al Mar, and ended up getting them Hawk Classics in stainless steel. A few more $ than the budget you indicated, but a VERY good EDC/gentleman's knife.

Good luck!

I carry a Hawk w/cocobolo. This is a good choice as well...but more than I'll likely spend on the groomsmen. This may be a good best man gift though. Thanks!

I did the same thing 13 years ago and gave my grooms men Vic "Tinkers" in red and my father and father in law the same in black. My best man got the big..champion?. My cousin gave out leathermen. Better then a money clip!

I took a couple of minutes looking for the Executive and found a lot of "disontinued" and "not available" out there. Plus, I found a couple of sites that are calling the Gent a "Gent Executive" -- but it's described as the brushed finish which is, of course, not the Executive.

There may still be some out there -- good luck!

If not, the Gent is still pretty nice too.

One more to take a look at is the Buck Nobleman. This is one knife that I'd strongly consider if I were at that point in my life. It's a Buck, which everybody knows, it's engravable, and it's classy.

Here's the titanium coated version (it also comes in stainless):

ANY would be nice and appreciated.

But a Fallkniven U-2 would be a KEEPSAKE !!!

I don't think it takes a knife knut to see the outstanding quality of that one.

And it would serve as a LIFETIME reminder of what a REALLY good knife is.

Neophyte or dedicated knut.

Fallkniven U1 would be even a better choice.
Sheeple friendy, wood scales,non-locking and nail nicks etc.
You can even engrave the ititials of your "bestmen" on the front part of the handle?

SAK Alox Farmer-Can be engraved and got from Amazon cheap.--Just the blades you need and none you dont.

If you like those Ultimate Pen Knives by A. G., the Upgraded versions are awesome!

They are all less than $50 each, and this would allow you to pick a better one for the best man.

I'm not sure I like them or not....I just ordered a set today to play with. See how I'm using the wedding to buy more knives...I'm so clever. Upgrading to a nicer handle material would sure make it easy to give the best man something a little better.

Oh, that's nice. Very nice.

I think I need to order myself one of those little babies. . .

I received a CASE Texas Jack in 1991 and a small Buck two blade, the smallest made in the early 90's. Both have made it longer than the marriages. You know your friends better than us. If they are outdoorsman, get them a Buck 110. If tinkerers, a multitool. If a little of both, a Case with natural handle. If they are urban rappers, get them something with a plastic handle.

That bone handle Texas Jack still does it for me. The Buck is a bit small.
