I like knives with etching on the blades - seems to me a simpler look.

Being a big fan of the whole Art Deco and Bauhaus movement, I really appreciate minimal and functional knives. Sure, I like looking at some well-done cable damascus and occasionally enjoy the look of handles inlaid with gold and mother-of-pearl, but a nice, simple design usually beats out the rest in my book. There's a reason why an Opinel sits in New York's MOMA. At times, it's difficult to distinguish between functionality and art, because the ingenuity of a simple design can be art.

Since my initial posting beginning this thread, I found a book that I may order from Amazon.com. It is called Art of the Knife by Joe Kertzman.

I have a copy and I think it's worth every penny...but that's just me.
