Knives at church - revisited

as a gent knife, which works very well in church, even around old ladies.

I've found "old ladies" to be more tollerant and and accustomed to knives than the younger generations, more so the older you get. Older women grew up in an era when men and boys alike were expected to have a blade on them - it was part of being a gentleman.

I often find that old women, and old men, are surprisingly tolerant of many things, probably because they lived through so much.

Years ago I did a little bicycle racing and so shaved my legs. My father told this to my grandmother in a good-hearted effort to embarrass me. She asked me why I did it, and I explained about easier leg massages, less severe wounds from crashing, and less resistance from the nylon brush when cleaning out road rash (OK, I thought it looked cool, too). She looked at my father and said something like, "Makes sense to me."

I really miss her!
