Can anyone tell me if pocket knives can be carried in Disney World?
I went to their site and it says no weapons, however many people on other sites are saying they have carried concealed firearms there.
I just want to carry a sub 4" folder, do they have metal detectors or anything like that?
I am going to the Mickey's not so scary halloween party next weekend, and don't want any hassles at the gate.

There are no metal detectors. But, there are some sharp eyed staff. The family goes every year and two years ago I got called out on a Benchmade I had clipped in the FR pocket. Had to check it, but had no real problems. The last two times I just dropped it in the pocket when walking in.

I don't worry to much about packing in Disney, as the effort isn't worth it, IMO. Disney seems pretty squared away to my. Besides I'd be pissing blood if I tried to carry at 4 o'clock on space mnt.

Have fun!

I've read many times just to drop the whole knife into your pocket. If stabilization is an issue, get a pocket sheath/holster. One of those "sticky" magazine pouches for a front pocket should work.

I carried a Spyderco PM2 there in December (deep in my pocket, not clipped) with no problems.

OK I will either take a Kershaw Crown or a BM Barrage, and just drop it in my pocket. Thanks for the info.

No Metal detectors but dont keep it in a bag, cause they check all bags purses or camera packs ECT. i think i carried my SRM T21 on me about two months ago.

I've been several times. I usually carry a Leatherman Skeletool figuring I'm just as likely to need a screwdriver if something jams. The main advantage is that it's hard to argue that the Leatherman is a weapon.

I had my large voyager on me the whole time and my g23 no problems no worries. People who look suspect are suspect. My advice is go for the leatherman or sac classic. From my experience there is nothing at Disney world to require more. Although you never know good old boot knife never hurt anyone. Well anyone that didn't mean to.punk kids not all kids just the punks would do it why not you :o

I carried a Dragonfly. At one point, I forgot I had it clipped to my pocket, so, while in line, I done a quick pinky lift and dropped it it my pocket.

The undercover staff agent saw that small little move, and pulled me outta line. Checked it out, gave it back and said, have a great time.

I would not, under any circumstances, try to pull one over on them. Either drop it in the pocket, or let them examine it right away. There is no rules against carrying a knife in the park, I checked, other than the state guidelines.

Something small, and not in the "tactical arena" would be my first choice, SAK, Dragonfly, or slipjoint would be my choices.

If you think you might need it for defense, you won't. You'll more than likely be using it to trim straws, pick your nails, and cut bandaids down to cover blisters.

I had a great time, and with the undercover security staff there, surveillance system, and general good feelings, its one of the safest places on earth, as well as the happiest. :D

I go there a lot. i live in Florida about an hour away. They do not have metal detectors. I carry a small blade with me when I go in my pocket or attached to my keys. If you keep it small and in your pocket you will be fine. Have fun and enjoy your trip and be safe. :)

What they said. Carried a leatherman wave and a few others on me no problem. Also, if you don't like giving them your thumbprint, you can walk to the front with tickets and insist you're not going to be scanned like a criminal and get away with showing a photo ID.

Remember that Disney parks are PRIVATE property, so state, city, and county laws don't mean squat. Just because the law says you can carry something doesn't mean that the owners of private property (or their employees) are required to allow you to carry such items on THEIR property. Disney employees have the right to refuse entrance to Disney property to anyone they want for any reason, and they have the right to order you to leave their property for any reason. And if you refuse they have the right to have security perform a citizens arrest and lock you up in Disney jail until the cops arrive.

I'd carry a folder well conceald. And I wouldn't pull it out for anything other than an emergency, like if someones clothing got caught in a ride or something. If you pull your knife out, even a little knife, for some mundane random cutting task, a security guard might see, or another park visitor might see and report you to security, and you might be required to either hand over your knife to a complete stranger (security guard), or leave the park.

If Disney has a "no weapons" policy, don't expect them to follow your definition of what a "weapon" is. You may not consider your pocket knife or multi-tool to be a weapon, but a Disney employee might disagree, and on Disney property Disney employees have the final say.

I think the point is not what Disney employees can do, but what they will do. If you keep your knife in your pocket, with no clip showing, you are groovy. Thats been my experience, along with just about everyone else who has commented.

Btw, they can't throw you out for any reason (race, ethnicity, religion, disability, etc. - See the Civil Rights Act of 1964), but they can tell you to get lost for just about any other reason. "Hey Powernoodle, you are way too good looking! Leave the park at once!" But since they are in the business of making money by making people happy, they generally won't give you a problem unless you are asking for it.

I think a hair popping sharp Barrage, concealed is the way I'm leaning.
Do they really take your thumbprint? That's a little insulting if so.

Great question, and thanks for the answers:)

My wife, daughter, and I plan on taking the trip next fall. At any amusement park or similar place that doesn't allow weapons, I do what the others have stated. I carry a multi-tool or a SAK. Really, with all the STUFF a kid requires for an all day outing, I really don't want a single-task knife on my person to take up space and add weight. If I am in a knife unfriendly area, I have always found a Victorinox Climber/Explorer/Ranger to be more than enough. Small knife blade available so it doesn't look "dangerous", tweezers for booboos, a couple of screwdriver options for equipment fixes. Actually, the Ranger usually tends to draw even LESS attention because it is bigger. The more layers on a SAK, the less you look like a knife-wielding maniac and the more you look like Daddy MacGyver:D

I think we knife knuts go a little overboard for what we NEED a knife to do in certain settings. Don't get me wrong, I feel totally naked with out at least a 4" folder clipped to my pocket:p, but I spent a week hiking around Ireland and Northern Ireland with nothing more than an Explorer Plus. Great tool that did everything I needed...until a TSA agent thought it would prudent to steal it out of my checked luggage along with my nice watch:rolleyes:...but that is another story.

My family and I had season passes last year. The only time I ever had a problem was when they saw the pocket clip on my Bedlam. The securtity officer at the gate asked me about it and I showed it to him. I asked if they allow knives and he said not ones that big, which, to me, implies the will allow some knives. My choices were take it back to the car or put it in a locker just outside the gate. They were very nice about the whole thing and if I remeber correctly they took my name down.

The only time they say anything is at the front gate. I used to routinely put my knife in my pocket going through security and then clip it back once inside. I use the same routine at Sea World by the way.
