Ludi,
very much so! If I were to "forget", my father would be the first one to remind me!! In fact last year I had a folder made in laguiole france, and my father was absolutely upset with me! You know how the french and Germans still feel about each other (as a whole)? Well, after being disgusted with me he looked at the handmade folder and wanted one for himself  So I had one made for him :) And he has been quite happy with it. But he and I still agree we prefer a nice German nicker in stag, before any other!!

I also still wear my alpine (fedora style) hut (hat for everyone else) when hiking/trekking, camping, etc. with my Baden-Wuerttemberg pin :D

As my wife says, "you can remove them from Germany, but you cant remove it from them" :D :D :D

That`s ok! :D

BTW a nice german nicker, handmade and with stag handles is something everybody should own!:D :D

Greets,

Ludi
Have an eye on the "Traditional Forums" to the "Bruckmann from A.G. Russel...." thread if you`re interested in german Gentleman folders from the time before WW2.
Will post some pics there tonight or tomorrow.;)

Sounds good my friend! Always interested in fine Deutsch essbesteck :D !!

Personally, when hiking/trekking I carry a linder stag nicker with traditional green sheath :D !!!

The Lord bless you my friend!!! I'll check your pics out when I get a chance!!!!

Sincerely in Christ's love,
John

Hi Wolfgang,

I used to live right next door to you in Raunheim! Deutschland is a great country. I wish I was still there.

One thing I noticed about knives in Germany: if not made in the EU then the prices were quite high. American made knives in the knife shops in Frankfurt cost twice as much as here. Even the Scandinavian knives cost way more.

If there are fewer knife collectors in Europe, it is probably due to the high cost of knives there.

I lived in Wiesbaden in the late 80's, early 90's. I use to frequent the henckels store there, and in Frankfurt. The american knvies were expensive there, do to importing cost, (taxes) etc. The German made ones of course were very reasonable. When I lived there I use to buy the boker switch blade side locks and I would pay on the average around $30-60 dollars for a bone (and, or stag) handle sidelock (traditional bar lock, similar to old case switch blades) in carbon steel. I belive the mark rate was about 4.30 if I rmeember correctly? Of course they have all gone to the Euro now.

Hi neighbours! :D
W.T.Beck and rev_jch you were both very close to Rüsselsheim, W.T. Beck a little bit closer!;) :D

About the prices in Germany they are still high and since we have the Euro € currency it seems to be almost they doubled the prices for some items! :(

But that`s O N E of the reasons why we`re hanging around here, trying to get a bargain!;) :D No, just kidding. We like these forums because of the tons of informations we can get here and the phantastic, beautifully made knives shown!!!

Let`s keep in touch, mates! :D

Greets from your old home,

Ludi

Will do my friend! :)

I do have to say, when I was living there and the mark was still in use, I did make out quite well (well...more like a bandit ;)) since the mark rate was 4.30 to the u.s. dollar!

I have seen the prices in Germany rise. I think the last time I bought any knives (mostly nickers) from Germany was about 4 years ago (?). Now I can't afford too! Its now cheaper for me to buy them through a distributor here, rather than pay overseas shipping and the nasty Euro rate :(
