Hello all! I am curious to know if the knives at Wally World are at the same QA level as those purchased through other vendors/distributors. My local WAlly World started carrying knives again after a hiatus due to theft. Now they are all behind glass !!

I would rather never have to purchase knives there but just curious, if the resistance becomes futile, are they usually sub-par quality— as in a line in the factory specific for these types of big box stores. Perhaps this may be different per manufacturer. I have most recently started to see the Ontario Rat 1 on the shelf which is awesome and intriguing. I see many nice Kershaws on the shelf too. The Buck selection is growing also...

They are the same. Buck doesn't sell seconds to Wal-Mart and I wouldn't imagine anyone does. I don't think Wal-Mart advertises they sell seconds either

Rats Kershaw and Bucks at Walmart are just as good as the same brands everywhere else. If you like one of those you should be fine.

Thanks for the responses. I have always heard that they somewhat force some manufacturers (not specific to knives) to produce products at a much lower cost to meet their purchase demands, which they in turn create a line just for them. Trying to positively confirm here.

I have a 1970s Buck 110 my brother carried and a 2016 Buck 110 I bought from WM. The new one is every bit as good as the old one and easier on the hands with the rounded edges.

Wally World does have items made just for them. Kershaw Hotwire is an exclusive. Also is one of my favorite EDC's and under $10.
I know that one of my fishing sponsors years ago had Walmart pressure them to lower their price, he said no. They couldn't believe it. lol WW came back a second time because of the demand for his product (not knives). He made a deal with them. Same wholesale price per unit, but he would pack them 8 to a bag rather than 10 so WW could "sell for less".

yeah the bucks at wally world are real bucks. The one near me carries CRKT and spyder co. although not sure if they are USA made Spydercos
The kershaws seem good, and the one here has ALOT of gerbers and true Victorinox SAKs

A Link is a Link all day long. One has shit plastic handles..the other, aluminum.
Both the same knife though wether Walmart or eBay..or some online "out of stock" store.

They're fine, and absolutely the same quality wise.
They do have some exclusives though.
I believe there was a blue version of the Kershaw model 1920 select fire which was somehow specific to Walmart, I believe the nylon sheath Buck 119 is a Walmart exclusive, and there are some exclusive packaging and holiday gift tins / sets sometimes.

You guys have OKC in your walmarts!?! Just the Rat folders or more?

I bought my first Spyderco Native at WM. But they don't carry any Spydies at my local WMs any more. Too much trouble for a manufacturer to reduce the quality of a knife for a big box store plus they would ultimately loose credibility.

Just the Rat folders, and to my surprise they have Spydies, Leatherman, and a growing assortment of Kershaw too! Must be because they are now behind glass so they aren’t afraid of theft. Who knows, but I am pleased to see better brand offerings.

Bought a 110 at a Wally World in Denver for around $30 (loss leader, I would guess)... when Chuck Buck autographed it at the BassPro opening in Calgary a year or so later 2007, he noted I had got a $65 knife. Knife is as solid as you could ask.

I asked a WM manager this several years ago. One reason for confusion is that sometimes WM makes the manufacturer repackage the knives in a clear plastic wrapper so you can hang it on a peg hook, the blade is open, and therefore looks better on the shelf. More a marketing tool then anything.

Seen the Rat folder and the Ontario pilot knife, some nIce Kershaws and Buck, and they have Case Yellow Trapper in stainless in a plastic sealed package. Other manufacturers too. Better selection now than I have seen in the past.

Home Depot also ‘forces’ pricing on their vendors, I am SURE WW does the same.
I saw this shit first hand with American Standard.
