Knives at work

That really was a good stand you took and a good way to handle the issue with your boss. It's the same at my warehouse job for a sporting goods company. Trouble is... I have to cut computer cabling, zip ties, and other stuff that those toy blades won't cut. I carry an Izula (against company policy) but with the knowledge (and a blind eye) of my bosses.

That's quite a back-pedal from no knives to a 4" blade allowed. There are quite a few really aggressive looking blades that don't exceed 4". Heck, in Oklahoma, that's the legal carry limit, so I don't even usually buy anything larger.

Getting the boss to approve a 4" blade will let the folks there carry MOST any folder. Good job. And good job for not just being a bobble head and agreeing with everything the boss says without any discussion. I have always told my employees that they should NEVER be "YES" people. Just because I pay their wages, doesn't give me a lock on being right all the time.

my first job was at a movie theater, and while I was opening up bags of popcorn to be cooked one of my managers came by and saw I was using my CRKT Hissatsu 2 and told me to immediatley to put it up. I did but took out immediatley after he left, it was in the stock room for crying out loud. No customers are going to see me. He had a knife in his pocket and he's a manager, what possible reason could he have for using it, I never saw him do anything in my two years there but text.

I work in a retail photo lab so there's always boxes and bags to open. There is no written policy that I can find about pocket knives not being allowed. They provide us with "safety knives", which are plastic handled EAB type knives. The problem is that the razor doesn't always come out enough to really cut some of the tape. So I carry a Griptilian and a small knife (alternates between a Squeak and a Shuffle right now). I'm discreet about it but everyone I work with knows I carry. Heck, I've bought quite a few and had them shipped to my work for pickup. Good on you for standing up for yourself and all the other knife carriers at your job.

My former company had a no knives policy but even so the office admin had a small little knife in her desk. I would carry on Fridays when wearing jeans. Now there is a no weapons policy that does not specifically mention knives so I carry daily and will do so until told otherwise.

I have never had an issue at work with knives. Now, I don't work in an office, and my boss is probably around 1% of the time, and he doesn't seem to care about anything except himself making money. So it is a non-issue for me. But good job on standing up for the right to carry a blade.

The biggest knife I've carried at work was a espada xl. It was mainly to oooo and aaahhh people, which it did very well. But I think anywhere under 4-4.5" blade should be a good sized work knife. I carry a 940 for work and it does the job. No one at my work cares, because its a metal shop that I use to make my own knifes!!

I addressed the new policy and told the guys if it is bigger than 4 inches put it in your vehicle, if u bring it back you will be terminated...

My last job was in a hospital, wasn't even allowed to have box cutters, try using a pair of suture scissors cutting open thick cardboard boxes of IV bags.

I generally don't need a blade larger than 4".

I never need a knife over 3", and I have a farm and worked on fishing vessels. At work, I can make do with the smallest blade. A 2-3/4" blade is about perfect for food and utility. I can't imagine what you would need a 4" blade for other than "just because".

I'm not trying to be a douche, but I used to be in charge of restock of the fire medic units at my last dept and knives cases of iv solution don't mix. I know this because one over anxious medic decided to open a box and long story short he gave about a 5000cc bolus to the floor.

I know what yamean Nic S. When I worked in the Cotton Mill and went through a safety film of the right and wrong way ta use a razor knife, well there was only certain folk alowed ta have these knives. I've seen folk do stupid things with a knife, present company included. I watched my dad once miss his leg by the width of his pants trying ta open a can of beans while we were camping. That would've been a real disaster if he'd zeroed in on his leg, the nearest Ranger Station was 12 miles away, one way!
So, I've had my share but nothing serious so far. I guess I've learned by others mistakes.

Wow 4" inch blade, that is still a pretty good size pocket knife. There is no specific knife rule at my job everyone seems to just use common sense as I havent seen anything over about 3.5". All it takes though is that one guy to be a tool and bring in a 5" blade that gets someone nervous and ruin it for everyone. There really is no need for a knife that big at work that I can think of.

I know that some folks like larger knives, but I think that 4" is the blade-limit for folders here in Florida, and that's not too bad. I think that rules that include "intent" make more sense that rigid limitations on blade-length.

Well the guys with the big knives before are sporting trendy yellow box cutters tonight to teach them a little lesson.

But really average knife in a sporting goods store is around 4 inches that's what I told our V.P so that's what he went with.

my work has a no weapons ( pistol with red bar across it) sticker on the entrances. However i am in tn and the state code says a knife with blade length over 4 inches is a weapon. so i feel ok about carrying one with blade length 3.9"
