Knives at work

I am a Stagehand at the San Francisco Opera, so I have to carry a variety of tools at work, including a knife.

I will be working as a security officer soon, and since it is in a building that houses State Gov't offices, we cant have weapons. I need to ask if this included a pocket knife. Hopefully, I can carry my Vector or mini socom...

Yeah, I carry a knife at work or more. Of course in the employee manual it specifically says not to carry a knife with a blade over 3". Where'd they get that from? I don't even work in the same state where the headquarters are located (they're in rural Illinois in case you care). I just carry a few Microtechs or something...uh, I mean I carry my Case peanut jackknife.

I work in an IT Helpdesk and generally have little use for a knife in my daily work - which obviously doesn't a dedicated knifenut like me from carrying one or two!:D
Usually a BM 813 or a BM 720 as well as my LM Micra. I also have a small Wenger gent's knife in my back pack for occasions where any of the BM's would be out of place.

I'm an attorney, have my own office. Being the boss, I can carry anything I want! :D I try to stay pretty conservative, though. I carry a small folder (usually a small Sebenza, occasionally replaced by a BM 940 or by a Spyderco mini Dyad) and a Leatherman Juice or an SAK.

I carry these into court, too. Our courthouse doesn't have a metal detector, so I don't have any problems as long as I'm discreet.

If I'm in court out of town, I'm a little more careful, might carry just the Juice and maybe the mini Dyad.

I work as IT consultant and since all knives are perfectly legal here I carry them to my work. I especially like autos - I play with them when bored...

I work as an engineer for the federal goverment. There is a restriction on the blade length we can carry. I think it's 3". I've never heard of anyone actually losing a knife because it exceeded the 3" limit, but it probably has happened. I've never even seen anyone check blade length, so I get the impression that as long as knife is inconspicuous and looks about like a 3" blade no one really cares. I basically carry a small Buck folder with 2 3/4" blade but saw a clip-on Buck the other day with 3" blade that I may switch to.
When working on farm and hunting/fishing/hiking I wear a 5" sheath knife and carry a small folder. What wear a larger sheath knife if Texas carry laws permitted.

Work in a graphic design studio which is a pretty relaxed environment. Usually only carry my Kissing Crane Stockman or SAK Tinker - no comments about those. If I am in jeans sometimes will wear my BM720 in a belt sheath, again no comments though I am a little more discreet when taking it out. Once whipped out a BM SMALL Ascent to help a colleague open a package she was struggling with - her response "Ohh my God you carry a pocket knife! Now I'm scared." WTF

I'm a Corrections Officer and I do not carry a knife while inside the facility. In the general populations area I have nothing with me but a radio, flashlight, and a set of handcuffs. During transport, court, inmate medical appointments, etc. I carry a SOG Pentagon Elite or a Delica, and the full patrol duty belt. Gun, extra mags, light, cuffs, OC, etc.

Sears has a no weapon position. I was wrote up for bringing in a Damascus hunting knife I built to show fellow workers. A Sears worker can't have a weapon on them or in their car.

I'm working at gov lab. we have rules forbiding knifes at work.. but I never had trubble with my Wave on the belt, even when security doing car search.

the same thing at school (colege). after 9/11 they put security at all entrances, but never had trouble with them too.

I am a network tech and in my bldg everyone usually has a knife. One guy has a BM auto, another a S&W auto, another a Cold Steel L Voyager, etc.

I carry a small sebenza (or occasionally a Delica), Wave or Supertool, and Cybertool 29.

What's teh point of being a "security" officer then?:)
