Knives/bayonets "missing" from last move

I think I'm making some headway now. However, it's still been 4 months since they stole from me and I'm burning time trying to make it right. I have an "inspector" coming by next week to verify stuff.

At some point (when I get ready to deploy) I'll send a bank of letters to all my elected officials, the American Legion, VFW, and the local media about how it now seems all right to rob Soldiers.

I've been around to fight them and have raised hell since I am here. Sadly, many Soldiers get deployed before they have the chance to fight and they get screwed. It's pretty much a free take for the movers now and they seem to have taken advantage of us as a rule. Sad.

Just a quick thought:

Having a detailed list like on your initial post is absolute gold ... serial numbers ... photos ... anything that keeps them from calling you a liar (never mind that they have their own professional liars on retainer).

I'm ex-USAF myself, Vietnam-era, but never got shot at.

Take care, bro.

thats shocking news.

bloody sticky fingers.

I hope you get some money back, since you'll have a hell of a time replacing your knives etc.

Well, I have some good news (I think) on this.

The insurance lady had an inspector come to my house. I showed him the rifles that went with all the bayonets that were stolen and answered all his questions.
I guess after she got his report they believed my version of events. Would be pretty wild for a guy to have so many WWII rifles and not a single bayonet.

Last email I had from her was that the check for the full amount claimed is in the mail. Just waiting for the check now to be sure that her "full amount" is my full amount.

I would still avoid the moving company like black death! After this trip I'm going to move everything I can myself and make sure the family is gone during it. They have taken to hiring "temp laborers" to move stuff now and I don't want people who are even unknown to the company in my house. Who knows how much more stuff would be gone then!

Glad to hear the good news.
Insurance companies hate paying out, and believe me, they will probably make life hard for the movers in an attempt to recover their money. Theft by employees is very poorly thought of.

Sadly, this is not the first time I've heard of people being ripped off on military sponsored moves. I've heard of entire CD collections being stolen. I had my 2 favorite jackets stolen in a move. I saw them put 3 jackets still on hangers and lay them flat in a box on top of other stuff. When I opened the box at my final destination I had one jacket and 3 hangers. :grumpy:
