Knives every collector need.

I'd say a Buck 110, KA-BAR USMC, and a few Case knives
But then again, I don't collect knives - I accumulate them and use them.

Well, every collector has a different focus depending on their interests. If "Popular plastic-handled folders" is your interest, then yes I agree that some sort of Spyderco and Benchmade would be appropriate to add to your collection. On the other hand, someone who collects vintage Schrade knives or Scandinavian Hunters probably has no use for them.

If we all collected the same thing, our collections would cease to be interesting. ;)

Heck, I don't even want others to collect the same knives that I do. That leaves more for me. :D

Many, many years ago here, I was one of the first people to distinguish between "collectors" and "accumulators." I'm happy to see it's stuck.

To the OP, you sound more like an accumulator to me. Nothing wrong with that — we all go through that phase. Buy the classics, and buy quality. Nothing's gonna make you say "WTF" years from now more than realizing how much money you spent on cheap junk. It adds up. Better to have one nice knife than five junkers.

I totally agree. I hadn't bought a new knife in about two years. Then, all of a sudden, I was bit by the knife bug. The expensive, quality knife bug. Sold all my cheap folders and started in on the good stuff. It's impossible to go back now.

Folders, Benchmade and CRK. I am a CRK dealer and still own more axis locks. Fixed blades, Fehrman is a modern choice.

Hmmm, probably some from the following list:

Spyderco Delica 4 FFG, Buck 110, Becker BK11 or ESEE Izula, Kershaw Leek.

It's hard to think of knives that EVERYONE likes, but I imagine those 4 have found important spots in a lot of people's collections.

I think the Spyderco Tenacious and Benchmade 556.

Why?

If you want to come here and lay out something like this, you should share your opinion as to why we should agree with you. I don't know you. Why would I take your word without some sort of explanation? How did you come to this decision?

gotta have the classics, Buck 110, Ka Bar USMC, etc., but I also think everybody should have at least 1 knife with a Tri Ad lock because its the strongest lock.

I'm gonna have to disagree. First off, I really try hard not to buy any knives made in Taiwan or China. That's not meant to offend anyone, but all of the knives I've handled that were made there just don't meet my expectations. Second, I'm not really a fan of plastic handles, with the exception of a couple of Delica's (now I have the jigged bone & titanium :D), an Endura and a few of the Spyderco salt knives. That kills both of those blades for me, however, I do love the axis lock.

The two knives I think everyone should have are a SAK and a Buck 110. Those were the two knives my old man gave me when I was a kid. They're pretty beat up, but I still have them.

I think the high-end Spyderco and Benchmade models will be sought after by collectors, but only after they've been discontinued or unusual variants.

But you never know what future collectors will find interesting. Who would have guessed that anyone would collect the Spyderco Q models?

And an original Old Timer, and a Mora, and an Opinel, and... :)

This is obviously a controversial thread. But lets all assume that every knife collector should have at least one folder (really, every MAN should have at least one folder) just as an EDC for general cutting tasks. I think we can all agree that a folder is more practical to carry than a fixed blade -even a small one.
IF we all agree that you should carry a folding knife, I would say ya, a Benchmade Griptilian is probably a good choice.
I think that by saying "Benchmade 556" what EDCdude really means is any lightweight, flexible, affordable folding knife that can fill whatever cutting task you may need it for. Collections aside.

But if you really, actually mean, "what knives does every COLLECTOR need to have?" then ya, its a dumb question. Impossible to answer.

He flat out said Benchmade 556. That doesn't mean some other knife, that means the Benchmade 556.

1918 trench knife (served in both wars and then made it to the movies)
FS dagger (return of a centuries-old design)
USMC ka-bar (served in God-knows-how-many wars and theaters of ops)
buck 110 (first folder certified strong enough to replace a fixed)
schrade pointy finger (at one time the only fixed blade advertised)
case stockman (THE pocket knife before the SAK came along)
randall #1 (self-explanatory)
moran damascus (first modern damascus)
***
those are my classics. after those, my WAG since i don't own all of the following:

SAK (re-drew the pocket knife rules)
gerber mk 1/2 (70s to 80s THE bad knife)
mad dog ATAK (adopted by US specwarriors)
spyderco endura (best exemplifies the present line, IMHO)
benchmade 710 (just a WAG)
original cold steel tanto (like the FS dagger, a resurected design that took off)
puuko / mora
representatives from SOG, busse, knives by AG russel
