Knives every collector need.

Oh.....I also still have an EDI Genesis. Unfortunately I snapped the hex end of the pivot. That was the first factory folder that I knew to use bronze bushings.

Any knife nut isn't complete unless he or she has got at least one quality slipjoint, I prefer the stockman & sodbuster patterns. I suppose a custom knife as well, to appreciate something made an individual, small imperfections and all. I'm more of a user myself as well.

A classic, the Benchmade 806-1101 Advanced Folding Tactical Knife (AFCK): M390 blade steel, axis lock, razor-sharp from the factor (cuts yellow pages phone-book pages without effort). No blade play. Still available from KnifeWorks. This was designed by Seal team member Chris Caracci with Benchmade. This knife is basically a BM701 on steroids. 0.550" handle thickness. Carries nicely. Black/brown scales...attractive knive. Black-coated blade.

But if you really, actually mean, "what knives does every COLLECTOR need to have?" then ya, its a dumb question. Impossible to answer.

I wouldn't call it "dumb."

But I would would cal it "hard to answer in a meaningful way."

Q: What knife should every knife collector have?
A: One (or many) of the knives they like to collect.

Q: What knife should every knife user own?
A: I ain't touching that one.

Kershaw Rend
Benchmade 605
Spyderco Rave
Cold Steel CalTac (tri-ad lock version, of course)
Buck 139
Microtech Mimic

I like tool knives, traditional knives, all-around practical knives, good value knives, and knives with stories behind them. To me, here are the ones that belong in a collection. (or my collection, at least) I don't have all of them yet.

  • Vic Classic or Manager
  • Vic Super Tinker or Explorer
  • Vic CyberTool 34
  • Vic Soldier (both old and new)
  • Buck Woodsman or Special
  • Opinel between #6 and #8
  • Some kind of Sodbuster
  • Buck 110 or 112
  • A tactical folder. I like the Spyderco Delica, Calypso, or Native Lightweights
  • A full size machete with a sawback spine
  • An auto of some kind
  • A balisong of some kind (my favorite is the Bradley Kimura)
  • Some kind of pliers-based multi-tool; I like the Vic SwissTool
  • Some kind of keychain multi-tool; I like the Leatherman Juice ES2
  • A Case Peanut or Pen Knife

I think everyone should have a 9 - 11 inch, 3/16 - 1/4 inch-ish thick chopper..perhaps something like the Becker 9 combat bowie, that's what I've got.

I could see myself getting into pukkos, but probably because I romanticize Scandinavian culture...must be here now...

Im surprised no one has mention a Hinderer xm. Everyone needs one of those. over built with lots of options.
Strider SMF or SNG
Kersaw tilt.

:foot::grumpy: That would be because not everyone can afford those and justify it. I'm decently happy with my knives (that's a lie, none of us will be), but I would rather have all my current knives than an XM.

exactly none of us will be! knife collections progress . Im not saying everyone is at hinderer level but IMO its a knife everyone who considers themselves a knife guy should own one at some point.

My reccomendations:

Victorinox Pioneer
Paramiliraty 2
Delica 4
ESEE Izula
a quality Leatherman
Case Peanut
and a quality Puukko

When He Typed "Spyderco Rave" I Think He Meant To Type "Spyderco Wave".
The Spyderco Rave ... Does Not Exist.
Unless He's Talking About The Spyderco Byrd Raven.

Anyways... Really This Is A Question Based On Pure Opinion And Preference.
Some May Love One Knife And Think Everyone Should Have It, While Others May Hate Said Knife And Warn Against It.

Anyways On My Must Have List:
Spyderco Paramilitary 2
Spyderco Delica Or Endura
Spyderco Manix 2
Kershaw Skyline
SAK
A Sod Buster
A Balisong
Etc.

But This Is My Opinion And This Varies Based On Different People And Personal Preference.

Paramilitary 2. it's cheap and a outstanding knife. Most people can buy this knife and be done in their perfect EDC search.

Opinel is all that comes to mind it is good quality cheap to collect and it show the evolution of the knife.
