Just a heads up to everyone.
Derrick Bohn of Knives Ship Free is offering a Buck Bantam 285 free of charge to any parent thinking of giving their child his or her first knife.
How cool is that?
Check out his website for details.

I got the email this morning. Thought it was a very cool idea and generous of him.

My kids are grown and I have a few 285's. At $20 the 285 is near impossible to beat. A free one would be the only way to do it.:p

That is very cool - and they are also engraving the knife with your child's name.

All they ask is that you take a picture of the child with their knife for them and share the picture.

I thought that was very cool and generous.

I ordered a Bantam for one of my granddaughters, and bought another so that I could give one to each of my two grandkids.

A very nice offer from KSF - thanks !!

Thanks for the heads up redcanoe!!! Going to order one for my 6yo daughter.
👍👍 KSF

A great gesture to educate a new generation. I have ordered and look forward to teaching my little ones about this great tool, how to use it and to be safe.

I just got one for my son. Very generious. And I truly hope their generosity is not taken advantage of by adults just wanting a freebie.

Thanks to everyone for the mention and the kind words!

It will (and has already been) taken advantage of by people just wanting a free knife. That is ok, I guess. Just goes with the territory. Those people have to live with themselves. :)

BUT-- we have had hundreds and hundreds of parents thrilled to be able to gift their kids with this knife.

We started with 1000 of them and we have way over "sold" it, so any current orders will have a little wait. We have 1500 more on the way.

Pass the word to parents.

Very nice gesture. I hope people treat the offer with respect.

Well, that was fun!

We gave away 4000 knives.

We had 1000 in stock and 3000 are on their way to us. So, all in all, there will be 4000 new knife lovers out there soon.

I'm not sure what the next phase will look like, but we have started a waiting list for people to be in line for the next step. https://www.knivesshipfree.com/kids-first-knife

Thanks to everyone who participated.

Derrick, this is an awesome pilot program you and Wendy put together! I ordered one yesterday afternoon for my son, Wyatt... he's only 3 (later this week!), but when he is ready, this will be his first knife from his dad... I wish I still had my first knife from my dad. It didn't have my name on it, but it was from my dad... and it was what got me out into the outdoors, and interested in camping, and so on.

It is so greatly appreciated what you are doing... believe me when I say that a lot of children are going to be significantly and positively impacted by this. It sounds a little silly to non-knife people... but a small thing such as a knife to a child can shape a lifetime of skills, interests, and community.

A job well done sir. <insert slow-clap here>

Your shop is located in Hillsboro, only a few miles from me in Sherwood, so a visit would possible. Do you stock automatic knives such as the new Buck 898 Impact?

That was what I had elected,I ordered one knife for my daughter, her name is Tylar marie, but I knew this was going to turn sour.its a great jesters, years ago I looked at your website and never ordered anything because you didn't sell buck knives at that time, now I'll have to start ordering !

I am still looking for the email address, but I thought I would share pictures here as well -

Since they have a knife-crazy grandpa, my two granddaughters, ages 8 and 11, and both love to check out my knives.

Here are pictures of the girls, Lauren and Emily, with their new knives from Knives Ship Free! They were both beaming ,and being 2015 and all, they both started taking pictures with their phones and sending to their friends and mom and dad....they are excited and want to go out into the woods to make a fire and cook some bannock.

That will have to wait until it gets a little warmer.

Good to hear, I have a few on the way for my kids, they are excited to get them. I also have ordered enough to more than offset the cost since then, I'm sure. Really great idea, and made me a customer for life.

This is so awesome. I can't wait to place my next order with you guys so that I can get a couple freebies for my children. They have been begging me for a knife and I have been thinking about what to get them. I think you hit the nail on the head with this promo.
