Knives for knifemakers only !

My normal everyday carry knife is a liner locking model that i designed and made myself. It makes for a great advertisement piece as well as good cutter. When i am headed into a rough neighborhood i clip my faithful Kit Carson Model 4 (large) with ats-34 blade into my back pocket as a backup.

I volunteer with a local search & rscue team.
We do ground wilderness lost person searches.
The blade that i carry into the bush is also of my own making. It has a 6" D2 blade and micarta handle. When i get sent into rough
territory i take a short sword (24" overall).
I made the sword as well. She serves mostly as a brush cutter.

Bald1 is right on, around the shop I use a Hawkbill, or Wharencliff design, very handy blade shape. I currently pack on my belt a 3" Cetan in Talonite. I have sold several off my belt as been mentioned. For Barn Dances, Church Socials, and Bar Time I carry my 3" Cetan also, folks up here dont worry too much about being PC! ha ha At the Blade Show West I bought a Speed Tech Synergy from Jim O'Young, one of the smoothest, nicest well made folding knife I have ever heald. I think you will see that in my pocket occasionaly, And its not a liner lock, as those of you that know me know I only like a few makers linerlocks, such as Kit's, Darrel's, Chris Reeves, etc.

Senator and Shaded Dude, I had forgotten about your story, I had a lot of fun doing that to you guys! ha ha Of course seems like I was a bit oiled up at the time, my behavior at the Blade Show West was immpeccable however, the wife was along. We relied on Bob Taylor to furnish the entertainment!

Cool thread. I am not a knifemaker, but it is interesting to see what knives they carry. Knifemakers should be subject matter experts. It is good to see what knives they endorse.

I started making some fixed blades with Talonite, so I decided to make myself a little friction folder with a Talonite blade. I'm very abusive with knives so I wanted to see how it worked. I cut, carve, pry, open cans, cut steel bands off units of lumber. I beat up a knife all day around my shop. Anyone who bought the knife out of my pocket would be very disapointed. So far it's holding up great.

Sounds like some of you makers should carry a $2000.00 knife in your pocket. You guys have a regular pocket store. I hope you don't let folks browse. Sorry-- I couldn't resist.

This has been interesting and remember guys we non-makers will now ask you to empty your pockets at the shows to check out what your carrying. I have always wondered why a maker comes up with a certain design. Is it out of your own desires? Or is it that if you come up with something no one wants you might be able keep one of your own knives for a few days?
