Hi there, i am looking for a knife for my father and was wonder what are the best fixed blades for chopping trees, hunting, and slicing meat such as deer and bear. my budget is 300 to 500 dollars. i was wanting to buy it for my father birthday next year. Thank you all in advance, I've been reading bladesforums for a while now and believe you all can help me.

What you have described is called a camp knife. They are big, tough, and sharp. It is the basic form most ABS journeyman smiths use to take the test with. Your budget should be enough to get one from most smiths. Email me if you want more info.

they're both on the forums. i know there are a lot of good bladesmiths out there. but i have worked with these guys and seen they're knives do some good stuff. i can personally attest to their blades being top notch. and not to mention they're JS stamps do the same

I second that. Mace is a great guy and make some beautiful knives. I own a Mammoth Hunter that Mace made and love it!
