I am in the Benchmade camp because I am left handed and want to buy Made in the US. Are there other brands that will allow a lefty to open and close with one hand?

Spyderco makes a lefty Military and PM2
Chris Reeve makes lefty models

I am a lefty too but I gave up on LH knives. I have got so accustomed to using RH knives, when I bought a LH Military I would push the lock the wrong way when I went to close it.

I noticed you posted this in the Community Center, there isn't a lot of traffic here, you might want to have this moved to General where you might get a lot more answers.
Click "Report" in the lower left of your post and as a mod to please move to "General Knife Discussion".

Also here is a link to the Bladeforums custom search engine.
It works better than the regular search for finding stuff.

I also find mid back locks ( as apposed to tail back locks like the buck 110 ) easy to use one handed, I think Buck might have a few

Spyderco PM2 lefty
Any backlock from any maker with a reversible clip.
Chris Reeve has some lefty versions.
Frame locks and liner locks are easy to open and close lefty.

Or just use the right hand :)

What type of knife and probably more importantly, what price? Fellow lefty here and there are options.

Benchmade, Spyderco, and Ontario all make numerous models that are good for lefties. Emerson and Southern Grind will drill and tap for left hand carry as well. I am sure there are many others, but those companies are pretty consistent.

In my humble and new to knives opinion - don't settle for something that makes you adapt. There are good options, need to know your parameters.

CRK has a wide variety of left handed knives and they can be found at most dealers. The PM2 by Spyderco is suited for left handed open/close.
Most frame locks can be learned, liner locks not so much. Sometimes, a fixed blade is a better option with a left handed sheath, of course.

By the time I had a knife I could switch to left it was ingrained in my head that "knife is on the right." Same reason I play guitar righty, cost/scarcity made it impractical for me.

As a lefty I have no trouble operating “right handed” knives. The only ones that pose an issue are ones that have a single stud on the wrong side and even some of those can be middle finger flicked open.

I of course require left hand carry, (tip up). Many manufacturers have saved me a lot of money by being right carry only.

As a lefty I do appreciate the novelty of a left specific knife such as my Sebenza.

I really like Spyderco as not only do they make great knives but they make most lefty friendly and many are fully ambidextrous. Look at their Cbbl lock on the Manix 2 if you like the Axis lock, it’s very similar in use but feels more solid. I’ll warn you the lock mechanism is stiffer to operate, (a good thing imo). Also they make some great lockbacks. They make a few “lefty” models too, I can think of the PM2 and Military. My personal favorite knife, Spyderco or otherwise is the Spyderco Smock, (operates perfectly in either hand).

Spyderco's Ball Bearing Lock is good for lefties -- think Manix 2. The Spyderco Smock has a button activated compression lock that works VERY well left handed (it's not a US made knife, though). The back locks are ambidextrous, but you're looking for one hand operation.

Now that the Benchmade's Axis lock is out of patent, they'll show up in knives other than Benchmade though they can't be called "Axis" locks. Hogue makes HKs and Ritters using that style lock.

As a lefty myself, I tend to cut the top of my thumb knuckle when I try to close a right hand frame or liner lock one handed. I just like to keep my fingers out of the blade path, so I'd tend to avoid a frame lock even if it was reversed for lefties.

Buck advantage pro and spitfire,
Some Kershaw, crkt m21 & m16, Spyderco, Benchmade, Ontario rat 2

Some brands have USA and overseas lines.

:) Most Cold Steel are fully ambidextrous and can be closed one handed .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

USA manufactured ...not so much anymore . :(
