Knives for work

I work in a machine shop. I carry what I want, Nobody cares. I carry a Leatherman super tool 300 everyday. My pocket knife for the day could be anything.

I work in an office environment connected to a warehouse. I usually carry something smaller Monday through Thursday such as the Zing I had today. On Friday though usually one of my ZT's

When I'm working(medical field mostly) I usually carry something inexpensive and easy to clean, though lately it's been one of my CQC7's

Technically Im supposed to carry 3" or less. The ZT 0550 comes anyway. I also bring a Composite Blade Leek when I know ill be in a "sensitive" area.

Most days, it's the SAK plus one of the locking folders.

It varies depending on the day but usually my Benchmade Rift with a low-ride clip or my PM2.

I carried a Spyderco Endura for 23 years without anyone making a fuss. Occasionally I carried a Cold Steel Voyager XL with a 5" drop point. Only had one OMG comment about it and after I let them handle it they quickly shut up about it. Is it me you don't trust or does the knife scare you ? Frankly I don't give a shit what their problem might be. If I have to explain why I own and carry a knife, you will never understand. BTW I carry what I want, even if the size or style or shape makes people uneasy. Insensitive,,,, you bet your ass.

I'm a Kitchen Carpenter and I carry a Leatherman Charge + a fixed blade.
I rotate the fixed and carry knives between 3" to 4,8" bladelenght.
Mostly Mora's but also Fällkniven or Bark River.

Mikael

Currently unemployed.

Just got working papers a month or two ago, though.

But the last job I went to was a construction job with my father, I had a Leatherman Wave.

Knives for everyday workplace should lean towards the traditional old schools knives people are used to seeing. Keep your one hand wonder easy flip knives for the woods or the home place.

What? That's BS in my opinion, I'm not gonna carry a less convenient "traditional old school" knife when I own plenty of "one hand wonder easy flip knives" that fall WELL within legal limits, just because some people are too freaking stupid to tell the difference between knife meant for utility and a knife meant for combat. If someone is so ridiculous that they get offended or scared because I pull out a Native, Blur, Leek, Delica, Tuff Lite, or whatever, frankly, their opinion doesn't matter enough for me to be concerned about it. As long as I'm not violating any laws, and as long as the company I work for allows it(ie, my current job disallows fixed blades), I will carry what I like.

Well, considering my place of work is a kitchen, my pocket knife is usually the smallest knife on my person at any given time and almost never raises any eyebrows. I can pretty much carry whatever I want, but am selective in terms of weight due to the light weight fabric used in most chef's pants. For this reason my benchmade 940 and spyderco para2 see the bulk of my work carry.

I like to switch it up often so almost all of my knives have seen work time but the most commonly used lately would be:

Kershaw Clash, Buck Stockman, Spyderco Manix2, CRKT Nirk Tighe.

Usually this guy with a four inch blade:

Lately a little of this guy with a three inch blade, for when I'm feeling the need for light weight:

Most days it's a Spyderco Delica 4. Others rotate with a Manix 2 lightweight or Kershaw skyline. I like to carry these "cheaper" ones at work to use the heck out of.

Working as a computer engineer I don't have much in the way of cutting tasks. The occasional box or plastic package is about it. However I find something therapeutic about handling a good folder while staring at a monitor thinking through a problem. Here lately the Spydie Military has been my therapy of choice.

The Kudu has to be one of my favorite knives ever. A large blade and super lightweight plus the fact that its cheap make it a winner for me.

Well said DShiflet. The idea that anything that isn't a traditional folder in the workplace is somehow offensive is ridiculous.

I work for the state of Ohio, in a state building downtown.

I usually carry
  • Spyderco Delica
  • Kershaw Cryo
  • Spyderco Caly 3

Never had any problems, and I always carry them clipped into my right front pocket.

My daily-use knife is a CRK Mnandi....carried in custom leather from Paul Long; not intimidating and just the perfect blade for use on every-day tasks. I also carry larger self-defense knives like Benchmade Grips or Wilkins Ghost Dog Pups or even Crawford Kaspers.....those tend to stay in the pocket.
