Clarence DeYong made the first ever drawing-to-knife custom I ever got from a farrier's rasp. It was a few years back, and while I've seen his knives occasionally, I haven't seen or heard of him for a while.
Very nice hamaguri (sp.) ground modified tanto, with stabilized maple handle, incidentally.
Gosh I miss my memory sometimes. In just the last few days, somebody posted a beautiful knife that began life as a hoof rasp. Am sure they used the word rasp in the text. Suggest a search on this or the Shop Talk, or even the general forum. It was gorgeous, IMO.
Pabu in the Portland Oregon area sometimes uses files. Check in the balisong forum, and Chuck Gollnick's site. Chefget in the same forum has posted a picture of such a bali under the post "show your two most favorite balisongs". Also, I remember reading somewhere that many (not all) farrier's rasps were only case hardened. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?
John Ownby (Knife141) made this one from a rasp. The scales are oak from a piece of flooring found in the ruins of the Branch Davidian compound in Waco.
