Photos Knives & Guns

I'm taking my CCW course at the end of the month, but I'd like to get a semi-auto concealed carry gun. I wear a size large glove. I really love my Steyr M9-A1, especially the sights. I'm looking at the new C9-A2 MF.

I want something decent size, preferably double stack. Or at least 10 rounds. I'm 6'3.5" 225lbs and a little tiny subcompact just isn't in the cards. 3"-3.5" barrel preferred. I could carry the M9-A1 if I had to, but something a bit smaller would be nice.

I'd like to keep it under $900.

I'm not a Glock fan. So that's out. Sig, HK, and Walther are on the table. Striker or hammer fired doesn't matter, but if hammer it must be DA.

Thanks y'all.

How about a Sig 229 (DA/SA) or 320 compact (Striker). Or a HK P30 (DA/SA) or VP 9 (Striker).

K.O.D. K.O.D.
SIG 320 would make the most sense. You have a lot of options for tailoring it to the size you want, and the mission, by buying extra frame shells.
HK P30 or VP9 might be useful as well. I think if you add up all the possible combinations of the grip inserts, you have 27 different grips available. But grip length is fixed (UNLIKE with the SIG 320).
I THINK Walther has the least adaptability of he ones you mention. But I've never been a big Walther fan, and even less with their latest offerings. They may shoot like lasers... but IMO they're ugly as ****.

Handled two of these today at my legs. The 365 SAS and 365XL in FDE. I like them both. Going to the range tomorrow and am going to rent one. Probably what I will buy as they both got my hand very well. Also, the Steyr C9-A2 is nearly impossible to find.

Opinions on the 365 and XL. The SAS was interesting.

I’m a big guy with big hands. The 365 fits my hand very well for such a small package. It’s a 2-3 finger grip but the design of the 365 gives me terrific control.

I’m a fan of full size Glocks but I much prefer the 365 to the baby Glocks

Also, it slips into my front pocket effortlessly

XL!

Carries like a small gun, shoots like a big one and the extended 15 round mags make for a fun little bullet hose.

If it fits you, get it. For what you’re looking for, I’d say get the smallest that fits you. You can always carry extra mags.

I'm seriously considering the SAS model for shorts pocket carry or IWB.

Colder months (October to April) my Steyr will fit in jeans IWB no prob. Not so with many of my shorts.

Even though I prefer the XL as more of an all around gun I honestly really like both sizes. If you’re at all considering pocket carry though, then yeah the XL is pretty much out of the running.

I've got the 365 in my shorts front pocket right now. Best pocket carry I've tried, and I've tried a lot. The ergonomics are just fantastic on the 365 model.

I personally wouldn't do the SAS. Even on the SIG website, there are quite a few reviews that would concern me. Additionally, this system was out on the open market for a couple years or more. Maybe still is. I got the impression it didn't sell too well. It obscures the target even more than conventional sights. And I couldn't for the life of me find how, if any, way there was to adjust it for POA/POI. It kinda reminds me of the guttersnipe sighting system (if I remember correctly), but without the gutter. I've gotten old enough now that I need a dot to have any accuracy at all, beyond about 10 yards. But it sounds like this sight loses its accuracy out that far, instead of increasing.

Dunno.... it's your money, and it sounds like you've actually held it. So you know more about it in person than I do.

This is the sight I'm talking about, which is what I think the SAS has, correct?

Correct. I liked the sight, but I have unique eye situation. Dominance is not an issue. My eyes don't work together due to my brain tumor 29 years ago. I can switch eye dominance at will. For me, holding it in store, it lined up naturally and immediately.

I like the antisnag too. The ported barrel I could give or take. I'm gonna rent the standard 365 and see how I like it. Then make the decision.

I guess you can't rent the 365 SAS?
Here are a couple of videos on it.
TFB-TV review
MAC review

It appears MAC rather liked them, but had to send it back because it wasn't zeroed.... at all. He could hit better at 8 yards without using the sights at all.
He got a used 365 SAS that shot exactly to POA, and seemed to like it a lot.
TFB didn't like it as much.
Gideonstactical said it slowed him down more than using the standard plastic sights on his Glock.
Hickok45 reviewed it as well. Haven't watched that one. But it is under "P365 SAS" review.

Good luck with your decision. Sounds like any way you cut it, you will get a good gun for in-close work.
