Knives in Jack Reacher

The Amazon original Reacher TV series , is surprising good and fairly true to the books , IMO .

I hope there will be more installments in this series ! https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a38954000/reacher-season-2-trailer-cast-news-release-date/

Somewhat surprising , considering how badly many Amazon productions have been mauled by the Woke ethic .

The Amazon Reacher is physically huge and strong , unlike puny (however intense ) Tom Cruise , who was badly miscast for the role , IMO .

At one point , Reacher uses some kind of Ka-bar type combat knife to take out a whole hit squad of VERY bad guys .

Very unsual and refreshing to see the good guy employing a knife in a heroic struggle , in any popular media .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Great reads, although Tom Cruise was miscast -- Reacher was supposedly 6 ft. 6" or taller. Also, he didn't like knives although he was pretty adept when it came to armed/unarmed combat..

The TV series just makes more sense. When you watch the Tom Cruise movie you just assume Jack Reacher got his name because he needed help getting things from the higher shelves.

I like Tom Cruise as Reacher. Although I think Cruise is a whack-job, he's such a good actor that I'm able to watch his movies and forget that he's a whack-job.

The reason I like Cruise as Reacher is apparently the exact reason why some people don't like him- He's built like a regular guy. That, and the fact that he clearly has some age on him, gives the character some vulnerability, he looks like someone who could get his ass kicked. As opposed to a guy who's built like a Terminator and looks like he could easily mop the floor with six guys all at once.

I've seen enough muscled-up action hero's in my life, that gets tiresome . I find a "hero" far more interesting when they look like they could lose a fight, a hero who isn't built like a tank, and as a result he has to rely on his brain and a high level of skill to get out of a jamb. I have no interest in a hero who looks like an indestructible demi-god, one whose sheer size could scare the crap out of an adversary, and one who can rely on brute strength to get himself out of a jamb.

The Equalizer movies are a perfect example. I'd much rather see and older, out-of-shape Denzel Washington as the Equalizer than a huge, ripped Dwayne Johnson.

6'5" 250 in most of the books. His height and weight are a major factor in the books, using and calculating attacks, escape, etc based on those attributes. No way for Cruise to replicate that.

Also, in the books, Reacher has a marked disdain for knives. I'm surprised he is using them in the show. I haven't seen the show yet. Amazon shows based on books give me pause. Their Wheel of Time series was a horrendous, woke perversion of the source material.

Jack Reacher using a knife just sounds wrong.

I've read every book, including the new ones written by him and his brother Andrew.

I enjoyed the series too. I hope Amazon gives the okay for a second season.

There is a IMKDB Wiki (Internet Movie Knife Data Base), I’m not putting the link intentionally because the page is full of pop-ups.
They don’t have any info about JR movie, but if you Google the question, it opens up a page with some limited info about the Ka Bar knife he gets before he goes down to the construction site.

"Ha! What a girly man!" (must be read in Arnie's voice) 😄

In Without Fail he and woman use a Boker with a ceramic blade. The knife is used thought the book, but is purchased so that he can get a knife past a medal detector.

Anyone know of a Boker with no metal at all? Wondering if this was just an embellishment for the sake of the plot.

The English action hero generally. Or at least from a Michael cane, Edward woodwood style era.

Boker Plus Anti has a ceramic blade, but one version (Anti-HC) has a titanium handle and the other (Anti-Grav) has a carbon fiber handle, but still has metal screws and frame posts, thumb stud, stainless steel liner lock, and pocket clip (the pocket clip you could easily remove). I don't know if it uses metal washers or ceramic bearings in the pivot. You're buying it because you want a slicey ceramic knife and not to evade metal detectors.

I enjoyed the original Edward Woodward "Equalizer" quite a lot. He was a very good actor and did a great job with the role.

I recently watched the series again on DVD. Aside from the show itself, I think it has one of the all-time best intro sequences (during the opening credits of each episode). That intro, the combination of sound and visuals, and the subtle, implied menace that it portrays of NYC, is a work of cinematic art in my opinion.

And to add some knife content to this post- It was in one episode that I first became aware of "ballistic knives". He used one, at close range, to kill a baddie.

Thanks! I'm not that familiar with Boker, but the mention of a specific knife brand that I knew of peaked my interest while I was listening to the audiobook today.

Boker is a pretty interesting brand, with a wide variety of knives. Imagine if Spyderco officially separated their different factory productions into sub-brands and that's sort of what they are.

This recent TV series...is it my aging eyes or was a lot of the footage 100% CGI? Watched it on a tablet device (11" screen) and just could not tell either way at times.

If you can’t tell either way, then I think that means they did a good job.

I didn’t notice too much CGI in the series.
