The latest Busse Knives magazine ads have a picture of a skeleton in a coffin holding two knives in his hands. Can somebody please identify which two knives are pictured. Thanks in advance.

the two knives in the picture are th steel heart 2 and badger attack. Are you interested in getting them or something. I have heard all praises about the Busse Knife company....If i had the money i would buy the battle mistress, steel heart 2 and badger attack....but i am only 15 years old so i would need to save for a while...anyways....i think knives from newt livesay are just as good as busse. my opinion, but for all practical purposes a well tempered high carbon knife steel does the job well.

Thanks for the reply, Lukers. The big one is the Steel Heart 2, and the small one is the Badger Attack right? Just making sure. Do you have any specs or prices on these knives? I haven't been able to find anything online about Busse knives other than the Basic line. Know any websites that have info?

They just caught my eye. The small one looks like a good sized everyday utility FB. The big'un, well, I know that I have no use for a knife that size. But MAN does that thing look sweet!

Thanks again for the info.

Hey man,
No problem...glad to help you out. the new web page for busse is http://216.199.9.85
I actually called jerry today and talked to him. he is a real decent and honest guy...in my opinion he does have the best knives in the world! Seriously, he said at the last convention he was at he said after 2500 pieces of rope the battle mistress(two inches longer than the steel heart 2) could still shave. He told a bit about te InFI steel and it is truely amazing stuff. YOu are right...the badger attack is probably your best bet for utility. In my case though, I would buy the Battle mistress, Steel heart 2 and badger attack at one time. I am really interested in wilderness survival and that so those three would give me lots of versatility. The badger attack is 247 dollars with INFI. Steel heart 2 is 297 and The Battle mistress is 347. All good buys for their out matched quality, If you have a good reason for buying them. In my case i think i would.....for survival where they would take lots of abuse. DO you know anything about Wicked knife company? I have bought three knives from them....the only three i use daily. what do you think? IS a miracle steel like busse's infi really necessary? or should i stay with a good old carbon steel?(1095)
your imput would be appreciated.

The ID on the knives is spot on but that ad has been arounbd for about 8 years now. I have the the Badger Attack, 4 Steel Hearts (last one in INFI) and a BM. Tougfhest no BS knives made by the nicest guy grinding steel. If you need a tool, you could find a lot of knives that are very good but if you need soul, Busse is your bet.

About 2 cnest I guess.

The Steel Heart and Badger Atak are slightly different now. The handle scales are now grooved and the beak on the Steel Heart is now completely rounded. As I understand it the BM wasn't out when that ad was made.

Lukers, the BM wasn't used at the last convention, it was the Basics 9 inch version which is a production Battle Mistress with wrap around rubber handle and no swedge on the top of the blade. Go to Blade Show forum and go back the entire year and their is a description of the test with pictures by Mike Turber. They are cheaper and are supposed to ship this week so maybe thats a possibility for you.

I myself have the BM and the Steel Heart. I haven't used them and don't plan to. I know they are unconditionally backed and everything but I waited forever for those things and nothing is happening to them. Also, I am not to good at sharpening and such so I don't care to take the chance of somehow ruining my Busse by screwing up the grind or something. I also like the looks of them in pristine condition. I will either by another one to use or get a Basics--the latter probably because its cheaper and faster. For my using blade I use my 20 inch Himilayan Imports Ang Khola. Much tougher, bigger, and better at chopping. Check them out Aubrey. With your choices in blades I know you would love them.

I am going to buy a Mean Street soon as they are out in INFI now. I might use that one.
Sucks that prices went up 50 dollars since I last ordered.

I like Newt's stuff too. I have an Air Assualt. Good blade. I use it daily. Best Micarta work I have seen--not much really only Busse, Newt and TOPS.

Luke look at www.survival.com--info on Busse and TOPs.

Other makes you may want to check out are Chris Reeve, Mission, TOPS, Strider, T.H. Rinaldi, and Kit Carson. Aubrey can speak for some of them as well.

thanks and take care

Here is the image. Sorry about the quality. Not me!

BTW the dead guy is Dr. Walt Welch's last patient. Since Walt is an avid Mad Dog fan and the guy came in with 2 Busse's....

Hey guys,
Collin...thanks for the help...i have been on the hoods site alot! I want to learn the tricks and skills of surviving in the wild..but i don't know where to start. Anyway, about the busse knives. I wanted to get the steel heart 2 a year ago but i never did get it. I want get one sooooo bad. I would like it in infi steel but i think that to have one in A-2 would be wonderful too
smile.gif

Aubrey....would you want to sell one of your steel hearts? I want one really bad...I and i don't know if i can handle the wait.(haha i sound like a freak...i want it now...jk) Anyway....if you would, just write back on this forum..thanks.
Collin....i understand your concern with dinging up your pretty blades...it isn't that hard to re sharpen. actually all that is needed usually is a touch up job....I use a ceramic rod on my air assault which makes it razor(no wonder i don't have hair on either of my arms
smile.gif
) Anyway....how do you think the quality of newts knives compare to busse....is it worth it to spend the bucks and buy the busse knives so they hold an edge longer...or are newts knives just as good?
Thanks guys,
Luke

Its not that I can't sharpen. I sharpen my Air Assualt quite a bit. I use a steel--no metal removal so blade lasts longer. Usually follow up with a ceramic rod and then a stropping. Hair will really fly. I guess I don't use my Busse because I like the new look and I jsut don't want to take the chance of anything happening to it. Besides like I said my AK is stronger and a better chopper so I use it--also in truth I like it better. Something about it. I just love it. No need to mar up to blades when one will do it see so I just collect others I like.

As for deciding between Busse and Livesay. I really don't use my blades that much that the Busse's properties are really needed by me. If I ever get to live teh way I want to they will be but not right now. The Busse's are certainly tougher but both companies are great and have a lot going for them. Recently Newt's blades have grown on me and I like both real well. Newt has a better selection but Busse has all the special properties. I intend to buy from both. I would say buy a Busse if you can (took me forever to save up for mine) but don't forget Newt. If you buy a Busse I would say get the BM first and see how you like. You just can't go wrong with one and then you can compare them and go from there. Besides you can always resell a Busse in the forsale forum probably.

Sorry to sound cryptic and incoherent but not easy questions to answer that you asked. They both have great quality.

I was trying to concentrate on Busse, HI, and Rob Simonich but now I might have to add Newt as I have recently become reinterested in his blades.

Also try out www.jungletraining.com--the gear evaluations and in the reviews forum go back a few days and they were discussing Newt.

thanks and take care

You know, alledgedly, no one was harmed in the photographing of that ad...

Anyway, as most all of Busse's line of fine cutlery, the small knife in the skeleton's right hand looks really cool

Side note.

All Busse knives are now in INFI. So the only A2 versions are already on the market.
