Knives in Montreal?

Anyone know of any stores in Montreal that sell knives? We're travelling to Montreal and Quebec city soon and I would like to visit a store where I'd be able to try and buy some knives in person.

You can try some gunshops, but I remember that 20+ years ago I tried to find a knife shop in Montreal this using the yellow pages, prior to a visit, and I found absolutely nothing. The fanciest knife I found then were some Cold Steel Master Hunters in a gunshop... Montreal also had so-called "Army Surplus Stores", but these mostly sell camping gear with what I remember looked like a small glass display of "United Cutlery"-type junk...

The shop "La cordee", 5190 Boul St-Laurent, has a few Kershaws and opinels...

This info in the first paragraph is old, but the retail variety in Montreal has considerably reduced since: Maybe something serious has sprung up, but the impression I got was that such shops were simply not part of the culture there. It really was amazing how little there was for such a large city.

For some reason retail is generally better in Quebec City, but the one such shop I found there 10 years ago was in a Mall and mostly for decorative swords and such, and is gone I think...

Thanks for the reply. I just discovered that there's actually a by-law in Montreal that makes it illegal to carry any kind of nice without having a specific purpose. Fines are pretty hefty and they confiscate whatever it is your carrying so that may have something to do with the lack of places to actually buy anything. I might have to stop at Bass Pro in Moncton on the home, that's where I got my Benchmade North Fork and they have a fairly nice selection.

I would say good luck finding anything nice in the province. There might be a shop somewhere but having lived in three rivers quebec city and around i never found a shop who sold nice stuff. Well besides bucks.

I actually have seen better stuff at canadian tire ahah!

It's probably just as well considering how much I've spent on knives in the last few months.
