Knives in Movies/TV Shows

I watched The Black Stallion with my daughter not too long ago . In the beginning the father gives his boy a pocket knife that he later uses to survive on an island . Great movie to watch with your kid. The horse is a wild badass and Micky Rooney is in it. Good 'ol movie .

TWO Benchmade 47s in Planet Terror, Bali-Song Inc custom used in "The Outsiders" Benchmade 42s in Kickass, Benchmade 45 in Falling Down with Michael Douglas, and a Sebenza wielded by Tom Cruise in Collateral... Just off the top of my head.

the wife has been watching this show on some channel called " terra nova", some kind of a jurassic park type show. i saw some women using a spyderco rescue or byrd . couldnt tell. it was quick .

I was excited about the show before it aired... i liked the premise (colonizing the past, 85 million years back) and it's Spielberg, seemed to have potential.

Turns out that this is the nth wave of colonists, there are already settlements, and thus our protagonists land in the absolute last place I would have expected 85 million years in the past- a boring suburb. Running water, electricity, all the conveniences... from the look of things they probably already have a homeowner's association telling them what colors of paint they can use.

So far, my reaction is that they should have diverted some of the special effects budget into writing some interesting stories.

Supposedly the local honcho was the first there and survived for 118 days alone among the dinos. When I heard that I couldn't help but think THAT's the story I wish I were watching... y'know, BEFORE they paved Main Street and installed the 500th toilet?

Okay, they do brief excursions outside the fence when we want to show how dangerous it is by having an extra or two killed, but nobody seems to be really dealing with that world, they're way too busy coping with interpersonal relationships.

Won't be long before we're rooting for the dinos.

These guys come from the year 2149, but almost all their stuff looks like it comes from our present time plus or minus ten years or so, not 140 years. From what I've seen so far, you're more likely to spot knives on this show than any real need for them.

From Terra Nova: That main guy(the one who survived for 118 days) has a Gerber LMF on his ankle.

Only seen one ep of Terra Nova. It's alright. A lot (if not all?) filmed down here in Aus.
Anyone know if the machette used in the first ep (when he's cutting weeds off the fence) is a production blade? Or maybe it's just a balsa wood prop haha.

Buck 184 'Buckmaster' in the movie Band of the Hand, 1986. (Juvenile delinquents were taken into the Everglades and taught survival and teamwork, etc.)

Stephen Lang. (He played Joe in Band of the Hand.) Your post reminded me of one of the first times I saw a knife I recognized (the Buck 184) in a movie. I had just looked at one (along with a SOG knife) at a knife shop in a mall in Virginia Beach that same evening.

Hard to believe I forgot this until now.

Not sure if its mentioned but in burn notice Mike uses Benchmade Infidel. I think i saw a TOPS CAT in one of the episodes too...

Just saw a spyderco worker in the movie "striking distance" next to a pile of cocaine. Funny thing is it was a fully serrated version, kinda hard to chop up your dope with that.

Of all the arguments I've heard against serrations, that has to win the prize as the one I'm least likely to repeat much... ;)

Does anyone know the knife +the rig "Chibs" uses in Sons of Anarchy. From what I can tell he has a leather Double shoulder holster of some make. With two silver/black knives hanging horizontally. It's a really cool set up and I would like one that's similar.

I always liked the knife scene in the intro to Cobra, regardless of how fake it was lol.. Still entertaining

Gotta’ love the 80’s

On I Dream of Jeannie episode Tony and the kidnapper caper this oriental lady pulls out this gigantic folding lockblade as big as any Cold Steel.Does anyone know what kinda knife that is. It has to be where Lynn Thompson got the idea for his gigantic folders

Season 1, episode 21.

It looks like something modeled after a Spanish Navaja fighting knife (examples below). Some versions were very large. Possibly a tourist/souvenir Navaja.

(Yeah, I know this thread is old, but I was intrigued by the idea of a big folding knife in I Dream of Jeanie. And I'll bet I'm not the only one 😁)

Pic from the show (colorized).
