Knives in Nature

I haven't got out in the mountains as much as I wanted in the past few weeks, so I'm trying to go at least once a week while the weather is still ideal. I hiked up (and back down into) an Alpine lake yesterday.

Forgot my customary apple, but nature provides. Had my fill of berries by the lake, explored around the lake for an hour or so, then decided to head back up and out.

Glad to see this thread bumped, as I've forgotten to post here. Been almost two months it seems since my last post.

Some form since then:

Hiked a glacial fed lake called Blanca Lake. About a 9 mile hike all together, up to around 4,000 ft where the lake is. You can see the glacier on the opposite side of the lake.

Rattlesnake ridge. A smaller 5 mile hike with a couple thousand feet of gain. It's not too far from the house though, and some nice views. My son had the day off school, so we headed out that way for a bit. The 2nd pic shows the lake below and the peak we went to above

Next is our camping/kayaking trip up to another glacier fed lake, Lake Wenatchee

Colchuck Lake. On this one we clocked about 11-12 miles, with the lake up at about 5,600ft.

My most recent hike, last week. Took an old off the path trail up to Mason Lake, and then hiked up to the peak of Bandera Mountain above the lake, and then to Mount Defiance even further above but on the other side. All in all I figure about 14 miles, with the lake lying at around 4,200ft, Bandera at 5,200, and the peak of Mt. Defiance just under 5,600. In the last pic you can see the view from the top of Mt. Defiance, with Mason Lake in view on the far right, and the other peak above on the opposite side

That’s a clever idea to carry some extra tinder attached to your chin.
