Knives in Shawshank Redemption?

I saw a few minutes of Shawshank Redemption yesterday. Before hanging himself, Brooks, the former prison librarian, takes a knife out of his pocket and carves "Brooks was here" in the woodwork of his room in the halfway house. Red later does the same thing, carving "So was Red". There is also an earlier scene where Brooks, distraught over his impending release from prison, holds a knife to another inmate's throat.

The knife that Brooks used to carve his message looked like a Barlow. Does anyone know for sure? Was the knife that he held to the other inmate's throat the same knife? What was the knife that Red used?
