Knives in the garden

Blueberry crop this year is decent. These garden bush ones beat going to the forest to harvest the wild Bilberries that grow on the ground, have very staining juice but are tasty! Only problem with the wild ones is the horde of biting insects you have to contend with-often have to wear a netting hood&jacket to keep them off. There are also Adders lurking under the plants ....

An outdoor cat knows his onions.
I don't remember the name of this Japanese gardeners' knife, but it's a little short for bears.

I'll add pics after work.

My garden is more of a yard. I'll work on that someday.

Yesterday I used my new, 24" Tramontina machete to fill the yard-waste bin with some of the tree trimmings I've left lying around for years. And some newly-whacked sassaffras. (I think sassafras dies harder than wild grapes or honeysuckle or pokeweed.)

Tramontinas are sharper from the factory than other Latin_American-made machetes of my acquaintance, and I'd sharpened it some more, so I got a nice cut from wiping off the blade.

There may be people out there who would say, "Why do you need a 24" machete when you already have a 22" machete?" Talk about having a discussion without a shared frame of reference.
My loon-wrangler says I'm the only person she knows who uses a machete in the yard. It doesn't worry her, though; she thinks it's funny. She hasn't seen my yard.
Here is my new 24" Tramontina, which has made it unnecessary for me to sharpen my 24" antique Collins Legitimus; with my 22" Corona.
Maybe I'll glue up that sheath today, maybe not.

'Bout time I got out in the yard.

I mowed the back yard; it grows thick and it's been a week.
It's been five days for the front yard, which is too soon, but the dandelions were egregious, so I scythed them with my grass blade.

I don't know if I look like a simple countryman or an escaped lunatic, but this is my tick-thwarting costume for the season.

My neighbor gave me a whole bunch of these things from her garden, and I spent all morning planting them around the yard.

I used my current-production stainless Okapi to help out.

I have a dislike for stainless traditionals that I can’t seem to get over, but I’m trying. I dulled the finish a little with Scotch-Brite, which helps some.
