• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Knives, machetes etc. on long backpacking trip

As someone that lives a few miles from the PCT, trust me, the last thing you need is to be weighted down with a machete. Swiss Army yes, and maybe a longer thin bladed sheath knife for food prep depending on what you are carrying to eat. You also have about zero chance of meeting any kind of law enforcement on the trail. Their butts are glued to the seats of 4X4's way down hill from there.

Forget what I said about a machete! I've never been up there in my life. No sense lugging that extra bulk and weight, if you don't need to.

I would think a Vict. SAK & Mora Clipper combo would be good or maybe sub the SAK for a Leatherman multi-tool ;)

SAK Farmer and a Mora 780--the Farmer has all the saw you should need.--Dont forget the 550 cord and the heavy garbage bags--contractor bags if you can find them--6 mil--Have fun--KV

So, XC279, which section of the PCT are you doing anyway? Out of 2700 miles, there's a lot of possibilities and a wide variety of terrain/ecosystems.

If you're going for a month, Id bring a swiss army knife or multitool of some sort, and a bushcraft knife of some sort. Bark river aurora, Bravo 1, Fox river, northstar etc.. I think a month is along time and would definatly want to get some practice using a knife in these places. I

You might not need a fixed blade, but you might get bored and want to practice youre skillset too.

then all you have to do is wait till some one going with you leaves their pack unattended and slip them in for them to carry!
