Knives most likely to stay on the island...

That’s a Griffin Co and pretty much excellent

It is interesting when you see a knife that looks like something you could use and the impulse to buy is very strong and then the 'smarter' side of the brain says "hey, you know that you already have a knife that is basically the same thing or one that is close enough in shape/size that you really don't need that one?"
And by golly when I put the brakes on clicking the buy button and engage my saner side, I realize yep, I am just filling up these storage boxes with more things that I will end up selling at some point!
So, that's a good thing, right?
At least I think it's a move in the right direction since I have been trying to find the one and reduce my collection as I move past the age of 70, things start to get different.

My recent looking took me to a few knives that really look great and have about everything that I do like in a knife's layout, but them I stopped and thought, always a good idea, that there were knives in my collection already that fill that spot. So I refrained from clicking, smart says I ;) we shall see how long that lasts. I am hoping that it is the beginning of a new era.

And for now the large sized Ritter in magnacut along with the Griffin Co X small fixed blade are a great match up.

Maybe there is hope for the rest of you poor souls !

I have many that need to leave the island, but none have so far. Even reducing the herd with obvious choices is not enough to thin it to a reasonable level. And somehow more keep coming 🤔🤦🏻‍♂️
I hear that! I have a military 2 landing next week just because I want to handle one! This last week an amalgam arrived just because I have always like the look of them. Turns out it's a great knife in hand!

I, too, just got my first Military 2. I've held off for a long while, because I KNEW it would be to big for my daily needs. Couldn't resist a decent deal on a Crucarta version, so I ordered, and guess what? Yep, too big! 😁

Very nice knife and execution, though!

Sebenza for me, it's just too "just right" for me.

Yes. I avoid clicking buy all the time now.

Knives and computer games. Now I know I have found my people!

We're playing Minecraft tonight. Wanna come with?

I can be convinced to trade for shop credit though.

Well, since I have been living Giligan's island in real time while in the south pacific islands for more than 30 years, I feel that I am a little more intune with the knives that would leave the island if I decided and was capable of being rescue or pardoned from the isle of thieves and the former penal colony called Guam.. I would most definitely have to add my input to this because I have stomped the jungles of both the Philippines islands and Guam for most of my adult life, so here we go with my castaways, should I ever be pardoned or released for good conduct. 1st on is my blackjack mamba that I carried as a part of my kit when I was working as a medic, the 2nd one is my version of a Kasper fighter, the 3rd one is my version of the Crossada by James Keating and it's called my devil's tooth..

So this is what knives would STAY on the island with you? Others you would vote off the island since they do not meet your needs? Just to clarify please as I think I am confused, keep or throw away. I think knives that would stay would be something that meets your needs, good to have anything if a survival situation. But if making a living or just practicing your skills, I would love to have @MolokaiRider’s voice of experience. He has used all sorts, but I imagine a machete or some kind of long blade would be appropriate to keep on the island for chores, and a folder for more mundane routine tasks, maybe a fixed blade with a 4 to 6 inch blade. To me a Swiss Army knife is a useful tool.

Here are the folders that have been around for a while.
The Police 4 and Endura 4 are new, but they will probably be here for the long haul. Gonna strip the paint off the clips and give them a little polish.
The S&W SS, Leek, POLICE SS and Boker Carver’s Conress were gifts that will be with me forever.
The Russell Straight Line Barlow, well, because it’s a Russel Straight Line Barlow, and it belonged to a friend.
The Civivi Gent is my dress knife.
The GB2, Rookie G10, 940-1, and 707 Sequel are my regulars.
The photo is missing the Manix 2 LW and Cold Steel 4Max, my work knives. They stay in the garage.
