I have been thinking of buying one of these and was wondering if anyone had used one. I know the head is made of S7. Looking at pictures of it, I noticed that it is scalloped and has the company logo embossed. Is it forged or cast? Pictures make it look cast. I do not know if S7 is castable or not. Any input would be appreciated.

Never used one, but held one. first impression....it's very small. Also, it is a cast head, not forged.

For the $$$ I would go for a Wetterlings SAW#13. At 13" it's a little longer (2") and a good forged head (also only $25.00 compared to $76.00). Sometimes Wetterlings can come with edges that need a little work, but out of the three I have owned, all were improved with minimal file work.

I have dozens of hatchets that will fill the bill. Always looking for something else.

This hatchet is intentiontionally hardened to only 48-50 RHC, so it would not chip if used for processing game. I don't know how adequate it would be for small knife tasks and hardwood splitting though, at which the Gransfors Bruks Mini excels.

I have had a mini for many years and it remains one of my favorites. It was pure luck that I found it in a L.L. Bean returns store. I did not even know that Bean had such a thing as these stores. I spied the mini in a glass case. The girl behind the counter told me that someone had received it as a gift and did not want it so returned it. Althought new it had a large mark-down on price. What I paid for it would make you mad. I am getting ready to buy a GB SFA and WH. I was talking to Lee Reeves the night before last and he told me that he wished he had bought the SFA instead of the Hunters Axe that he currently owns.

Did he say why?
They're both the same size except for the polished poll, right?
Be interested in the "why" for such closely related items.

I was out in the woods for the weekend is why I am responding now. Lee did not tell me why he regretted the Hunters Axe. I got the impression that the SFA appealed to him due to it being better for general use, since this is the reason I told him that I was going to take an SFA over the HA.

I had one and it is small. About the size of a Gransfors Bruks mini. I believe the head was cast. Too small for my uses so I sold it on evil bay.
