Knives of Alaska

I have the bushcamp model. I think it's a good design, good steel (D2) and a comfortable handle.

I have the Cub Bear and the Steelheader. They are my most used knives.

i only know what customers told me about their experience with them. Heard lots of "cleaned every deer I took this season without re sharpening". Heard a few "cleaned two bears with it and then a couple deer without re sharpening in between" too. It's good stuff.

Thank you for your replies so far. Esav you might know more as a moderator but how come they aren't very popular here on bladeforums?

I’ve always had very good experiences with them. My favorite knife form them is the Alpha Wolf. They are very good knives so long as you remember what they are and what they are not.

I have no idea why they don't get more discussion time. It is probably a combination of lack of advertising on their part and a specialized product line rather than the everyday carry style of Spyderco - Kershaw - Benchmade - Cold Steel etc.

I have the Muskrat Skinner, which is a rounded tip beavertail style blade. KoA does a good job with D2 and it's a nice little knife. Decent sheath too.

According to Knives Illustrated, Chalie Allen is a managing partner of both Diamond Blade Knives (Friction Forged) and KoA (conventional heat treatment). I understand that they are excellent USA made knives but targeted at the hunting fraternity rather than tactical/bushcraft/survival, which is why they may not get as much exposure in BF.

I am interested in KoA also, but more the folders. The Denali w/ D2 looks good in pics, and the new featherlight with carbon fiber and D2 for 80 bucks has got my interest. How could it not?

Anyone out there got to handle either of these? The handle on the Denali looks really comfortable.

I can't find a dealer within 300 miles of where I'm at.

Thanks

I’ve seen both of these knives and I always thought that for the price I could do better as far as folders are concerned. The ones that I handled seemed like the locks may be a bit on the weak side.

I have the Ulu, African Hunter and the Cub, all great knives. My opinion is that they are sort of a custom/commercial knife company... I really like the D2 steel and believe they are well worth the money. By the way, they are made in Texas, not Alaska.

A friend of mine has the Bush Camp combo, and I got a chance to look at them. The big knife is D2 and was very sharp, the small one is in 440 and was even sharper. This was after he dressed an elk with them. The sheath holds both and seemed of good construction.

Nice knives, I don't know why they don't get more press either.

This is the set I picked up and I LOVE them both. The small one I like for food and basic things normally reserved for a pocket knife, and the large d2 was HAIR popping sharp. I just had to ask though because they SEEM to be of very good quality; and I also wondered in any person had bad things to say or broke one yet.
