Knives of the Farm Store

This thread warms my heart. I work in NJ (live in the mountains of PA) ... I'm the ONLY man in my office that carries a pocket knife (it's always a Case ratcliffe muskrat, 63032, barlow, 6107w, etc) ... whenever one of the women needs a box opened or some other cutting task, there's a knock on my door. It's amazing how "regional" knife ownership has become ... seems quite different in urban vs rural areas. i guess these NJ guys grew up never having a grandpa cut an apple or dad trim his nails with a pocketknife. I like to carry a slipjoint in a way to carry on the tradition I grew up with - keeps me grounded in this urban jungle. I find it amazing (and annoying) how some guys immediately jump to the idea that a 3.5 " traditional slipjoint is a weapon and I have to educate them ...

I have an aunt in NJ, and when I go to visit, I don’t even take any knives, because I’ve been told, on good authority, that the police are known to interpret any knife as an illegal weapon. I feel downright naked and helpless the whole time I’m there.

Once I got home and realized my suitcase had both a Delica and a LM Wave riding around in there that I had forgotten to unpack from a previous trip. Went through the airports with it and everything. Oops!

Yep, some great reading here. We have an ACE hardware store here in Brentwood, TN. that actually still sells some odd and end Case pocket knives in it. The showcase is up on the front counter, just like in the days of my youth, and someone's always looking at them. None of them are very unique, for us lovers of the pocket knife, but still it warms my heart to see that showcase sitting there.

It's odd but the Ace Hardware Stores here no longer have their Case displays, they are locked up in glass cases.

The small independent lumber and hardware store in my home town, just up the street from my old family home, still has the display and has had a Case day in years past.

Takes something away not seeing the display...

Yes, seeing that old display case full of knives was quite a thing to behold! Guess I haven't seen one like that since the 1970s.

I don’t think I have ever seen a case full of Case knives. Cabela’s usually has a modest selection under glass, and Lowe’s used to have some in blister packs. I got some good closeout prices there on a peanut and a stockman before they vanished. I have seen Rough Riders in Hot Springs, SD, and Steel Warriors in River Falls, WI, but otherwise, I guess I just don’t go places where you can find display cases dedicated to one brand.

There are a couple hardware stores here in NC that have almost the entire Case catalog in stock, and on display. They aren’t big places, but they’ve both figured out they can sell the knives mostly online to supplement their brick and mortar sales. I can spend hours in those places.

What part of Nc? I currently live in eastern Nc, near Kinston bout hour 30 min South of Raleigh, would love to see that display :D

The two I’m thinking of are Union Grove General Store, in Union Grove, NC, and 67 Hardware, in Jonesville, NC. Both are right off I-77, probably 30 miles or so apart. 67 Hardware carries a lot of other brands too, and had a decent supply of Queen knives when I was there a couple years ago.

I still have the first three I bought out of a Schrade display case. If I remember right, it was an octagonal thing on the counter, the clerk would unlock it if you asked.

In my retirement, I work several days a week on a no longer in business tree farm. 100 acres that still needs mowing, pruning, etc. It’s mainly to help out the owners - old friends, who are too old to keep it up. He has an old Schrade 8OT Stockman that is usually on the front table with his truck keys. I checked it out one day, and saw that the years of “sharpening” on too course of stones had taken their toll. Lots of missing blade steel. Dull as heck. I offered to sharpen it for him, but he declined, then told me how many deer he reckoned it had dressed out. I guess it’s just a sentimental reminder of his Dad, since he rarely has it in his pocket anymore.

That's cool, unfortunately union grove bout 3 hours from me, but my Sis and her family live in Salisbury, next time I go up for a visit me and my nephew might just have to make a trip out there. I lived in Mooresville back in 05 to 08 working for a welldriller there, so worked all over that area.

The local hardware and feed store kinda kick started my knife addiction. The old wood and glass display case filled with Case knives kept my attention while my parents shopped about the store, I was glued to it.

It was Wessterman’s hardware store that I got my first Case knife and soon many followed me home from that display case. Even today when I go in there (it’s Ace hardware now) it’s the first place I go to relive old memories.

The ACE hardware store in Giddings, Texas (closest town to where I live...about 40 mile east of Austin, out in the country) still has their Case display near the entrance to the store. Of course, Tractor Supply has a few. The local auto parts store has a display of Case knives, as do several of the oilfield supply stores near here. Traditionals are very much in use around this part of Texas! Most of what you see are Case Trappers, in CV and stainless, as well as Sodbusters large and small, as well as medium stockmen. I have a yellow delrin 3318 CV that I made into a "pocketworn" myself...very handy knife!

There’s and old feed and seed about two hours drive from me that has a few Case knives in a corner of the store .......

I've never seen anything like that ... that's more Case inventory than I see at the Cabela's mega store. Can you give us a little more info on the type of "feed and seed" store that is ... just seems amazing to me that a relatively small agricultural/ farm store would have such a display (it's awesome that they do ...) thx

There are three Case Master knife dealers in the state of Texas, this is one and I’ve been to two of them. Not sure if it is appropriate to name them off as they all have online stores.
But I’m in the Houston area.

I just checked on Case Master Knife dealers in this area and there showed to be three within 20 miles of my home. I am familiar with all three of said stores and they apparently have not attended the motivational seminars that your Texans have. :( Perhaps I should bring there attention to how y'all ... GIT ER DONE.... :D:D:D .... of course .... everything is bigger the Republic....
