Knives of the "real" pro's.

I've always admired Rob Bredl the 'Barefoot Bushman'

I can think of no one better at survival in the bush, except an aborigine of course :)
But boy does he have a strange taste in knives!
I watched a program where he caught and cooked and ate some rats :barf:
The knife he used looked like this cheap Chinese multi tool.

In other episodes he carried a huge Rambo type fixed blade knife.

Guess they must do the job.

Yes, both Bernard's & Bruce Voyles's books mention the William Gilchrist/Abe Lincoln knife. A long time back, Blade also showed a knife Abe was said to use in his younger years, I don't remember the brand, but it was a large sleeve board with wood handles, and nickel fittings.

:).

When I was a very young boy about 10 years old my dad worked at what ever he could get. In the 50's he was clearing right-away for utility lines and had his right foot was crushed by a falling tree. They got him patched back somehow but his foot always hurt. Fast forward about 5 or 6 years, we were sitting in the kitchen of our little old house, my dad looking at is foot. He said to me "boy get me my good knife". I did, he then took the knife and sitting right there, cut a pin out that had been placed in his foot in the earlier surgery after that he had no more foot pain. The knife a Belnap Bluegrass two blade barlow, I passed it to my son abouy 1 1/2 years ago. p1123

Now thats a great story!

Wonder what the famous Austrian Herr Hitler carried in WW1 and later on in life as Chancellor? Lot of German knives to choose from!

Then Stalin, a notorious Dunhill pipe smoker must have had a knife of some kind too?

It's that picture of the contents of Lincoln's pockets that set off this train of macabre thought.... Were McKinlay's or Kennedy's pockets catalogued, or Franz Josef's?

Preety sure our contemporary politicos carry NO KNIVES at all, yuk!

My family and I stopped at the Will Roger's museum last year when we were up by Claremore, OK. His personal affects were displayed. He had been carrying a BSA "camper" style knife when he and Wylie Post crashed on take off at Lake Barrow, AK.

I had a near identical knife to Lincoln's, by the same maker: Gilchrist. just different scales (pictures attached). It's the knife that got me going. that, and the George Washington knife on display in Alexandria Virgina
