Just wondering what kind of knives the older bushmen in everybody's lives used the most when camping hunting etc?
Admittedly My Dad didn;t do much knife carrying He cleaned a fair amount of fish in my presence using a paring knife from the kitchen and when camping he carried a sheet rock knife with the retractable replaceable razor blades..
he wasn;t a hunter or a hobby bushman though just an urban Dad who had a country childhood.
lets hear from the rest of you.

My dad always carried a his leatherman no matter what we were doing. If we went camping he brought a SAK with him. If we were fishing he took a filet knife. He was never one for fixed blades until I introduced them to him.

The guy who really got me into the outdoors carried a buck 119. That was the golden knife for me for most of my adult life!

My dad always had a SAK and a stag handled German made fixed blade. I lost that fixed blade years ago, to my extreme disappointment.

My dad didn't hunt or fish, although I do, but he always carried a SAK and a stockman of some kind. Used them for work and around the house. I carry the same two styles and add a large modern folder(Cold Steel) also. When in the woods I'll add a fixed blade.

my dad doesn't hunt, or camp. He use to fish, but even then he didn't very often. Through the years, hes carried various slipjoints, and various locking folders. currently, he's carrying a schrade simon (green) that I bought him for christmas.

pops always carried buck or schrade folders
and schrade fixed
tho he had an old ontario
and western fixed hunting knives
i never saw him carry them
i have numerous of his old knives
tho i dont use any of em anymore
really dont wanna lose any of em

My father used a Buck 119 when outdoors and EDC'd an Old Timer folder. He grew up in the country and was an avid fisherman and hunter growing up, but not as much during his adult years.

My dad always had a couple of knives around, but he rarely carried them. I recall a Boker stockman and a Camillus scout.

Now he often carries a Case Texas Small Jack, a gift from me a few years back.

Dad carried a schrade or case small folder. Did everything he ever asked of it from ranch, farm, hunting or fishing...Grew up farm poor so he made due with very little his whole life.

dad wasnt a hunter, did alot of fishing though. all he ever carried was a swiss army knife and a pair of needle nose pliers.

my dad had a small slippie (shrade or uncle henry maybe) and grandpa carried a barlow. Both used other razor knives or fillets etc during certain activities tho and granny wielded a mean green river in thr kitchen!

My dad owned one knife and he left it to me in his will. It's a small custom made fixed blade with crown stag handle. I love that knife!

my pops always had a case knife on him. he loved slippies and barlows. i carry a case hunter/trapper he gave me and i love it

Dad carries a Case pen knife, my grandmother kept an old Western USA sheath knife with about a 4 1/2 inch blade on her while she did yard chores.Uncle jerry used a Barlow while hunting mushrooms.

My grandfather gave me a Barlow which I remember as my first real knife. I didn't much care for it; the blade was too big. A few years later I got a Boy Scout. That whole knife was too big (remember I was a 10 yr old kid wearing jeans). The first knife I remember carrying ALL the time was a folding "fish" knife. I didn't use the scaler much (trout don't need it) but man that blade got a work out. I think that was the last knife Grandpa ever gave me.

My Dad carried one of those Camp Kings with the black tin handle, all the black is worn off, and later a Camillus stockman. I`ve got them both now.
