Knives of your Mentors

my Dad carried a case stockman, I think it was unamerican to carry anything else back then

my scoutmaster carried a knock off buck 110 from pakistan

and my assistant scout master carried a buck 119 he found in a boat (he worked at a boatyard) it was all salted up and his son fixed it up nice for him and found a sheath for it.

My Great Grandad carried a Remington 3 bladed whittler that is now mine but will never get carried.

When I was younger my dad would throw a Camillus Marine Combat Knife at our log pile. You would pick the log and he would stick it in the end of it. My dad now carries a Benchmade 940 and before that various little Buck knives.

My dad hunted and fished a lot. The only knives I remember him carrying were Old Timer and Queen slipjoints . We cleaned a lot of rabbits and catfish with those pocket knives.

My dad got an SAK Tinker in the early 90s probably and carried it every day until just last year I think when he bought another one. He had sharpened the blade down so far it was crazy when you held it next to a new one. He wore the scales down from it riding in his pocket so much that the SAK logo came off.

Most of the men whoinfluenced me growing up carried 3 blade stockmen generaly Old Timers. Scoutmaster carried a Ka-Bar.

My Dad fishes all the time and has for nearly 50 years. I always remember my Dad when I was younger sitting down and sharpening his knives. I don't quite remember what they were as far as brands, but he did give me his Ontario pilot survival knife. What a knife! I still use it and love it.

My dad always had a TL29 when I was a kid, later he got a Gerber multi-tool. It would have helped if he knew how to really sharpen a knife. From about 12 on I had to sharpen his knives, and chisels.
He was a good man who loved camping.

well if we include grandfathers, then i have to say a old timer knife. only used them when they were made in the usa. stopped buying them afterwards. he can also get a knife sharper than any other man i have ever met( including professional sharpeners)

My granddad always carried an Old Timer Large Stockman. 1095 I think. Took a wicked edge. I still have the last one he owned.

Dad used to carry a Buck 110 knock off in a leather belt pouch. He gave me one when I was a kid but I lost it somewhere along the lines. Wish I still had it now.

This is what my dad carried. Never once saw him use a knife in the woods though. Maybe that's why I don't today. Chopper's pretty much all I use.

My dad always carried an Old Timer of some sort, maybe a 34OT... If we were heading deap into the woods for any period of time he would bring an axe also. He didn't own a belt knife or see any need for one. As he got older the trips into the woods got shorter.

I buried him almost 9 years ago and still when I do something for the first time I think of him.

Thanks for the posts guys.

My dad has never been into knives, but over the years has gotten interested because of my own interest. I do not know where or when or why I got into knives, the allure has always been there and will be there for the rest of my life. I guess knives are just fucking awesome.
