Knives on cruises?

I agree that there is very little, if any, need for a knife on a cruise however a cap-lifter does come in handy if you purchase a bucket of beer. Unless you want all 5 bottles opened at once you may have to wait for a server to come around. I use one on every cruise as I am not patient when it comes to my beer.
Not an issue for the OP (if this is a real post).

I've taken a knife with me on every cruise I've been on (8 and counting). Usually something cheap that I don't care if it get lost, stolen, or confiscated. I've never had a problem yet, but I'm also in my 40's, not 13.

Going on and off the ship, I always put it in my backpack. Especially in the islands, where I have no idea what the knife laws are, or if I'll get hassled getting back on the ship. Going to Alaska, it shouldn't be an issue - at least for a legal adult.

As others have said, ask your parents first! At your age, they are ultimately responsible for your actions.

This reminds me, I'm going on a cruise in October - good reason to order a Spyderco SALT of some sort!

Just got back from a Carnival cruise and decided to carry a small Leatherman multi-tool and had zero problems with security. They never said anything to me about it.

Took a Buck 303 and a Style PS4 on a Carnival Cruise about five years ago. Got looked at by one of the security personnel getting back on the ship at one of the debarkation points, Boston i believe. They let me keep it when they found neither locked, and got a lecture from the security people about not needing it, despite confirming those two blades were fine in the rules.

Next cruise I take I'll bring a pair of Slip and Snip scissors, and call it a day.

Interesting choice.

Why would it be better than, say, a Classic like @GatorFlash1 suggested, or Tinker, like E Etna suggested? There is zero need for a cap lifter or can opener on a cruise, it doesn't have scissors (which could be useful)...etc. I don't see the advantage. What cruise (or hotel) experiences have you had that led you to that choice?

Been to only one cruise in my life and it was 20 years ago. The ship had a shop selling bottled drinks and Mom sneaked in some canned food for us to snack on just in case the buffet wasn't to our liking.

That was the first time I ever had to use the bottle and can openers on a SAK. Most of the bottled drinks were in PET bottles, but soy milk (my favourite) was the odd one out which came in glass bottles with that bottle cap. As for the scissors...truth be told, I don't ever recall using it but it's something I really want to have on a SAK at all times when traveling out of the country.

I don't know how much has changed on cruises over two decades, but my one and only cruise experience calls for a proper SAK with at least all these tools.

I grew up in Alaska, tourists would descend in droves off of those ships. Over the years I heard enough stories about stuff going missing from cabins that I wouldn't risk bringing anything I wasn't willing to lose.
