Knives on Greyhound Bus

Well I got the equivalent of an email form letter in reply to the note I sent them and posted here on behalf of myself and likeminded knifenuts. Their reply:

Thank you for expressing your concerns about the inconvenience you
experienced while using our services. We are never satisfied when a customer
expresses a complaint or displeasure about the way he or she is treated or
served, and we regret you had an unpleasant experience.

Greyhound Lines, Inc., is committed to providing quality customer service and
maintaining affordable prices. It is important to us to always strive for
improvement. Input from customers such as you will help us with this
process. Please be assured the circumstances you reported are being taken
seriously, and they are being addressed.

Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience. We hope you will not let
this incident deter you from using our services, and will give us another
opportunity, in the near future, to prove we can be the most reliable and
economical form of transportation to meet your needs.

Sincerely

At least they are aware...

That letter sucks...nothing but useless generalities meant to placate!!!  Of course I wouldn't expect much else so soon, it's likely a form letter :( Please keep us updated on any further communications!

And the response to your letter is..........where? That seems like a bunch of mass mail bull that (like Peace Frog said) will cover any problem. Sigh:(
Disgusted I am,
Matt

What a load of Crap!!! ...Please use our services soon so we can walk all over you. So lets see if I get this right. The Gov't advises us to be on alert for further terorist action. Great, I'm advised. But I can't carry a sidearm, pepper spray, mace, stungun, or knife to safegaurd myself, or loved ones, because it would be in violation of some silly ass law. Oh and you can't use your cell phone while the plane is in motion, or while driving your car. Maybe we should just stick our heads between our knees and ... you fill it in. Sorry for the rant, just plain disgusted with the whole thing!

Imagine what our pioneer ancestors would have thought of all this hub-bub. Knives were a necessity to them. Without a reliable knife at hand, they would have gone hungry/cold/unprotected. Granted, knives today aren't always needed to survive, unless you're a downed F-15 pilot in enemy territory.

Knives are one of the oldest tools known to mankind. And suddenly, because of some idiots with boxcutters, they are dangerous weapons to be feared by all. People need to educate themselves, and those of us who carry knives can act as "goodwill embassadors" if ever given the opportunity in idle conversation. I agree that security measures will never be able to prevent people from carrying knives on commercial airliners if they are really serious about it. And I am very worried about what knife laws may be made in the very near future. You can have my knife when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers!

That IS a load of crap!
You think they are now aware of your problem?
I think not.
I guess the Complaint department took one quick glance at it, saw you as "weapons nut", pitched it, and mailed you this letter!

Methinks the complaint department may not have pitched your complaint, they may have put your name on a list instead.

Amywilkerson has the right idea, we need to act as goodwill ambasadors. Make sure people see you using your knives as much as possible as everyday useful tools, the same way a pen or calculator or nailclippers are used. Otherwise knife use will be increasingly marginalized.

Sad to say, but it looks like they gave your letter the ole circular round file, and sent you a lame general response :( .

IMHO this trend goes beyond some of the attempts
to pin it on "liberals" (or even "tree-huggers",
God knows what they'd have to do with anything),
because I'm seeing this same attitude from folks
all over the spectrum lately. It is an expression
of control and public safety paranoia that seems
rooted in lazy thinking, the fear and uncertainty
of the day, and the desire of a lot of companies
to make sure their ass is covered and they're in
vague compliance with this sentiment that we need
to disarm and silence ourselves to be safe. As we
all must know, there's no ideology with a monopoly
on lazy thought. :)

To be sure, this sentiment is finding expression
just about everywhere you care to look, which is
saddening for us knife folks, no matter what our
particular political stripe is.

I only hope we escape this time of crisis without
permanent damage to our civil liberties, nevermind
the ability to carry a pocketknife on a Greyhound
bus or aircraft like many of us have done dozens
of times without harm or injury to anyone. :(

I don't know what they do with them, but whether it does any good or not, a quick email complaint which briefly states your displeasure (as politely as you can stomach) can't hurt.

My email has been sent, with the directions for them to notify me if they change their policy or this info is not accurate. Until then, Greyhound won't see any business from me.

I'm also thinking a short letter to the editor of your local paper stating your thoughts on "no knife policies" going around and your intent not to support those businesses, etc. could be a nice thing to get published, and clip and mail to Greyhound, etc. Don't know if I'll do it, though. Lot's more trouble. Is it worth it????
